Suggestions for alternative hood for 50mm f/1.5 Summarit Lens

Whilst its really an ltm lens I don't think that this question sits well in the Historica section so here goes. I'm awaiting delivery of a suitably cheap 50mm f/1.5 Summarit to explore its potential and will use it on an M9. There is no hood and the original fold out hoods go for silly money, so can anyone suggest an alternative which fits and does its job please?

I'd be tempted to get a step-up ring that would give you a much wider range of hoods to choose from:

According to a previous discussion, some (but not all) 40.5 mm hoods may fit, but you'd have to be really careful if you try this:

Nice lens, mine not coated so very flare prone.

I use on mine LTM Summarit also, noname round hood, screw-in E41 (41.0 x 0.5mm).

I've found at Bièvres's photo fair, searching in a miscellaneous tray with the lens in hand.

Have heard also that Olympus made can be used easier to find, made of plastic though.

Before acquiring a XOONS copy hood (made 'in period' by Walz) but not wishing to use my Summarit unprotected I bought a low-cost 41mm UVa filter (Marumi branded) and super-glued an easily-sourced generic 40.5mm reverse-conical vented hood onto the filter. The combination worked perfectly well for a total outlay of around £25. The filter is of decent quality so no problems with IQ.

I now have a few Leitz colour-contrast filters (and the aforementioned Walz hood) - the lens is normally used with the Monochrom - but not yet a Leitz UVa so whenever the lens is used on the M-D 262 this filter-hood thing comes out to play.

One little (fairly obvious) detail I'd suggest if you plan on going down this route for the time being is to first screw the filter onto the lens and then glue the hood in place as you will be able to see where to align the vents to ensure there is no finder blockage.

EDIT : The Walz 'XOONS' hood - which is pretty much an exact copy of the original - was advertised by one of the 'Usual Suspects' and was around half the price of a genuine XOONS so trying to find one of these is another option.

I've just acquired an original XOONS hood for my Summarit. However, I previously used a 41-43mm step-up ring and then a 43mm hood and/or filters, which all worked well.

Heavy2stars used to see a whole lot of odd Leica adapter rings on eBay, like the Series 5.5 to e39 for the 40 Summicron on the CL film camera, which was long out of production at Leica. I bought a 41 to 43 mm ring from them to use my various 43mm filters and hoods on my 50/1.5 Summarit.

I did and finally picked up a Nebro Handcross Universal Filter Mount with inbuilt Hood, which just fits nicely and is a period British built item, for £2.50 + postage which can't be bad. Tried it and it does work, and with no vignetting.
