I pick a similar lens and it works ok

I've only 6lenses to worry but I imagine it could be difficult with a real 'library' of lenses

Out of interest how would you match the CL Summicron 40mm?

Sometimes I choose a lens profile in the M10P that has similar properties if I can.

Almost always I run the files through EXIF edit to add the proper lens information to the files before I import to an editor. I often remember what lens I used to take a particular shot so it helps me locate images to have the correct info.

What do folks here do to remember which non-Leica lenses they used to take photos?  Do you pick a similar focal distance/speed lens from the menu?

Do folks 6-bit code their Voigtlander and Zeiss lenses?

It’s easy for me because I only own 2 lenses (I never own more than 2 lenses at once). My 50 is the Summicron and the 35 is the Nokton v2. For the Nokton I use the Leica 11870 profile. I use it because I think this is the lens Voigtlander was trying to copy. They even look similar (more so with the Nokton v1) … Works well. It switches automatically to that when I put it on (it goes to whatever I chose last). Another benefit of only having 2 lenses (one Leica one non-Leica). I don’t need to worry about remembering to choose a lens profile.

When I shot with the M9 I had a few non-Leica lenses and I would modify the EXIF info in the image files to record the correct lens.
I used Phil Harvey’s excellent EXIFTools to modify the data. I actually wrote an AppleScript droplet with which I could drop a batch of images - or a folder - onto and it would process the whole set.
You can also use Lightroom to modify the EXIF into - see here

I just use a set of hierarchical keywords to tag the files. Works all the time and I can use my own classification system that way. I just use e.g. Lens>50>2.0>Summicron_V or something similar. Most of my lenses are Leica so I do not mention that, but in case of e.g. Voigtlander it is called Lens>35>2.5>VoigtColorScopar. For zooms I just classify them on the shortest FL
e.g. Lens>35>4.0>Vario-Elmar35-70R

This is faster for me than setting several fields in EXIF for each lens. And still, I sometimes forget setting the keywords 🫣

Ok but how to code Voigt lenses so I can just put my M10 on auto and forget about it?

Voigtlander lenses (other than ancient ones) have a very shallow rebate machined into the lens flange, this is intended so you can paint coding marks and they won't rub off when mounting the lens (unlike Sharpie marks on a plain flanged lens). Just make yourself a template and buy a pot of Tamiya XF-1 Matt Black and a small brush. You don't need the white 'null' marks, just the black ones.
