Cronilux Posted November 28, 2023 Share #1  Posted November 28, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey guys, can anyone explain what this could be? It’s not fungus. Separation looks different imo. Is it the black coloring on the side of the lens flaking off? Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 Hi Cronilux, Take a look here What is that? Color flaking off? Separation?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pgk Posted November 28, 2023 Share #2 Â Posted November 28, 2023 From the posted photo it could be edge separation, or Schneideritis, which is the term used to describe the black paint flaking off the ground edges of the lens elements (google it).More info on the lens might help. jaapv Posted November 28, 2023 Share #3 Â Posted November 28, 2023 It looks like Schneideritis, but what is that clustering haze that I see? You'll have to send that lens in to a trusted repair shop.

Pyrogallol Posted November 30, 2023 Share #6  Posted November 30, 2023 Looks like separation, but it won’t make any difference to the pictures and could take decades to get significantly worse.

It has nothing to do with Schneideritis which look like dozens of little white dots in the inside black coating of the lens. This photo half way down the page shows you both issues inside one lens.
