UKBROOKLYN Posted November 26, 2023 Share #1 Â Posted November 26, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just wondering if anyone has compared these 2 lenses. I have heard great things about both. Should I give up my loyalty to Leitz for the extra half stop in speed..
Advertisement Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Hi UKBROOKLYN, Take a look here Summaron 35/2.8 vs Light Lens Labs 35/2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Tom R Posted November 26, 2023 Share #2  Posted November 26, 2023 I use a Summaron 35mm/2.8 on my M4 and M4-P camera bodies. I also own a 35mm Summicron/2.0 that I also use. Unless I need that extra stop (very rare these days), the Summaron is an excellent lens. It feels a little heavier than the Summicron, it has an infinity lock (useful), and is chrome (less important, but pairs nicely with the M4).

Is the extra 1/2 stop really that important to you? if so the answer is obvious.

In other regards I think the differences between both lenses are far smaller than what they have in common, that's been my experience in using both. Maybe the modern lens is a little nicer for color film.

You are the only one to know. Just take the first one then use it a while.
elmars Posted November 27, 2023 Share #7  Posted November 27, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been interested in the LLL 35/2 for some time, but it's hard to find in Europe. In March I was in Tokyo and was able to look at and test a new lens. I didn't buy it because it had play when focussing. Then a few weeks ago I bought a very nice 35 mm Summaron refurbished by Leica. As a result, it is mechanically like new. Very small and light, the quality of the images is very good even wide open. Not as sharp in the corners as modern lenses, but almost as good in the centre. There is no outshining even at open aperture - unlike the Summicron or the Summilux from that time. The dealer also says that it is sharper at f/2.8 than the Summicron 8 Elements (= LLL 35).
Smudgerer Posted November 27, 2023 Share #8 Â Posted November 27, 2023 I recently bought the LLL 35 f2 collapsible, primarily for use on my M2..........Don't regret the purchase at all. 35mm is my most used focal length so I do have other 35mm lenses from Summilux / Summicron to Noktons / Color Skopars and the LLL lens fits right in quality-wise and in terms of it's handling and results. The LLL 35 8e rigid is the same optical formula as the 35mm collapsible I believe.
