Carlos cruz Posted October 30, 2024 Share #21  Posted October 30, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Today I had a pleasure to play with simera 50/1.4 nicely made, good definition of the image and 45cm close focus does the trick. My only problem is the size, I’ll stick with smaller lenses

My only issue is: Size and if the focus is not 100% calibrated, do they offer a service?
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!   I was actually quite impressed with the image quality this lens delivers. My only issue is: Size and if the focus is not 100% calibrated, do they offer a service? Yes - to be honest, wide open I also don't see any significant difference to a 50mm Summilux, I used earlier. Stopped down, it can be even nicer due to the more round shaped aperture. I have two Simeras now (28mm and 50mm) and both are well calibrated by the manufacturer. So I do not see a risk because the chance of a lens getting disadjusted over time looks quite small to me compared to the much more complex and sensible opto-mechanics on the other side (in the camera). Other Chinese manufacturers of cheap(er) lenses (like TTArtisan) offer the lens together with a calibration tool and I saw many cases (including my TTA 90/1.25) where it has to be used initially. At that price point, I would not expect service but I am willing to take the risk that it may not survive decades like lenses from Leica. The question that I have: Who pays the price for making it possible, that i can get it for such a small fraction of a Leica Summilux? They seem to have no R&D costs, as the lens design of the 50/1.4 Simera looks like a 1:1 copy of the 50mm Summilux ASPH, but that does not explain all... Â I do agree! The image quality is indeed quite good, but I had issues (front focus) with mine glass why I returned it. I think I am just not a friend of these out of nowhere popping chinese copy-cat brands. 1
