Trutta Posted November 1, 2023 Share #1 Posted November 1, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey gang, I’ve seen a lot posted on the E39 filter, are there any after market filters that will work with this lens? Any ideas to what this red R is in reference to? Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Advertisement Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 Hi Trutta, Take a look here 50mm ELMAR 2.8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TomB_tx Posted November 1, 2023 Share #2 Posted November 1, 2023 The red R is the focus index mark if you are shooting infrared film. I use B&W E39 filters with my 2.8 Elmar.

Anbaric Posted November 1, 2023 Share #4 Posted November 1, 2023 (edited) E39 is just how Leica and some others designate a standard 39mm filter with a 0.5mm thread pitch (which is the pitch that everyone uses for this diameter). So any current 39mm filter from B+W, Hoya, Heliopan, Kenko etc. will work. For a filter that will be used often, it's worth getting something that is multi-coated to minimise flare and has a 'wipe-clean' layer (e.g. B+W MRC or MRC-Nano, Hoya HD etc.).
