I've done it, just cut off the hood's two "prongs" which keep the hood "square" on Cron IV.

Not really usable on Cron II/III, at first good idea, and the hood turns at too many occasions.

Better use round hood.

Here used on 1.4/35 modified hood with cutout for less VF hiding framing.

hood keeps turning though

I actually just learned that if you put a properly sized rubber band between the hood and the lens to fill in the little gap, it’ll stay put. The 12504 hood is cool but it’s so huge. 12585H would work too I guess. I hear a hood isn’t always necessary with this lens since the glass is so recessed. Might try that square hood trick though. Thanks for the info

You might be interested to see a few comparison snaps which were posted a while back which shows finder-blockage with various hoods clipped onto a similar lens. Here they are fitted to a LLL 35mm f2.0 '8 Element' but the results are still relevant. The 12526 rectangular hood is included in the test;

OK; FWIW (and apologies in advance for the p-poor quality) here are some snaps (some of which were taken using a 'phone! Shock!! Horror!!!) showing the relaitve sizes / finder blockage of the IROOA, the 12585 and the 12504.

Height : 12504 / 12585 / IROOA;

Frontal Area : 12504 / IROOA / 12585;

View through viewfinder (M-D Typ-262):

LLL Only ; No Hood Fitted;

With IROOA;

With 12504;

With 12585;

...and lastly, just for fun, with the rectangular 12526 (which I would not advise due to it being able to revolve on the lens-barrel;

Clearly (Ho!Ho!) having no hood gives the most 'complete' view but in actual use the 12585 has so little blockage it's my favourite by a long way.

Philip.
