So some reckon that leica produces more samples of limited editions when the demand is quite high.

What i find curios is this offering on fredmiranda.com:

a black chrome 50 summilux made in portugal? My 35 black chrome is made in germany.

There were tariffs applied to German imports to the US, including photographic equipment, during Trump's presidency. In response, Leica released popular lenses with a made in Portugal designation for the US market. Leica increased the prices of lenses designated as made in Germany (to cover the tariff costs), while the Portugal labeled lenses remained at the original prices.

The tariffs are gone and it appears Leica has stopped offering Made in Portugal lenses and now everything is just expensive 😄

You might find this informative.

Here is a listing for a new Made-in-Portugal Black Chrome Summilux-M 50mm ASPH, still available from Leica Store Miami, as I type this, on 7th October 2023. I have no affiliation with this store; just posting for reference.

Interesting, i didnt know it uncluded "limited" edition models

this makes it quite obvious that at the very least the 50lux BC was not limited to 500 pieces

Yeah by the point they released the Portugal version, there had been quite a bit of discussion here and elsewhere that the BC was no longer a limited release. However, the LHSA BC edition is.

definitely it was limited run when first released, sold out too quickly, absent for bout a couple of years? before anyone could find a new copy and leica had been discreet with the change of plan
