ND Filter for Steel Rim Original

I came across a topic here once discussing this, but can't seem to find it now.  Also remember most of the suggestions were no longer available.  41.5mm step up rings that I've tried don't fit.  

So, is anyone using a ND filter with the steel rim (original)?  If so, what are you using?  I have the matching Leica UVa filter for it (which has no front threads), but I don't have a ND filter.

Tricky one. I use the original E41 filter when not needing ND, then remove and use a Eb*y E41 to 40.5 step down ring to house a 40.5mm ND (widely available)
