fabianoliver Posted September 30, 2023 Share #1 Â Posted September 30, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, i've boiught from KEH a used elmarit 28asph V2 in excelent shape. When i installed the lens hood to achieve horizontal position, i needed to apply a little force, i mean little. The front block turned a little clockwise with the hood, one milimeter or two. The same if i wanted to go counterclockwise. I tested the lens extensively and is ok. I need to be aware about that? thanks for your opinions
Advertisement Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 Hi fabianoliver, Take a look here elmarit 28 asph V2 front elements turns a bit when installing lenshood. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Gregm61 Posted September 30, 2023 Share #2 Â Posted September 30, 2023 The lenses with threaded hoods need a slightly extra torque at the end to seat the hood in place. That's normal and the same way the hood mounts on my 35mm f1.4 FLE version 1. Second-hand versions of the type 1 version of the 28mm f2.8 ASPH often suffer from loose front blocks, due to less than careful previous owners gripping the lens by the hood when mounting and removing the lens, which over time will loosen the front section. I've not seen too many comments about a similar issue with the version 2's but I wouldn't think the front block should be wiggling back & forth independent of the rest of the lens.
charlesphoto99 Posted October 1, 2023 Share #3  Posted October 1, 2023 My version 1 has pretty much always been a bit loose, even after being back to Leica (after I dropped it and screwed up the helicoid). I will say that I haven't used mine with a hood in decades (only with a Leica UVII filter), and it doesn't flare. Makes it a much more compact lens as well.
fabianoliver Posted October 1, 2023 Author Share #4  Posted October 1, 2023 Thanks for your replies. I'll try without hood, i'm using it with an M8, so i have the IR filter on. Or find a circular rubber hood
