It is likely to replace my 24-90 in studio portrait, the extra reach will be good. The Sigma starts at 28mm, not 24mm. I suppose it's to keep it smaller. The way I see it, I'd happily pick this 28-105mm and grab either the small Sigma 24mm or something similar for wide angle needs. My point is that there are plenty of small wides available, but not many longer options on the small side of things. The smaller is perhaps the Sigma 90mm, or the Panasonic 100mm

The Canon lens is quite amazing, and good in photos and video. but it is not a carry with your lens, too big and too heavy. I do so many celebrity shoots where the whole shoot takes 20-30 min and have to get 5 looks, there is no changing the camera or lens when tethered.

If I'm already hovering over the abyss with my heels, but 28 mm is still not enough, that's it for the photo. Either way... On the other hand, with the 60 mpix of the SL3 I can still crop to 105 mm equivalent. 😉

Also, the noise of a 105mm equivalent crop would be several stops higher than the non-cropped image.
Ning Ning Posted August 16 Share #128 Posted August 16 If I crop a photo taken with a focal length of 90 mm to 105 mm, the resolution of the 60 mpix of the SL3 is reduced to 6 mpix? Sorry, but I don't understand the calculation now. But what I wanted to say, ironically, was that the foot zoom may reach its limits at some point. Namely when I can no longer take a step back. That's why the 24 mm of the 24-90 is more important to me than the 105 mm of an upcoming 28-105.
algrove Posted August 16 Share #129 Posted August 16 OP Coming from a person with 4 APO primes, since getting the 24-90 I have not mounted a prime on my camera and consider the 24-90 near APO quality. IMHO.

I assumed that was what you meant in post #125, but apparently, you meant cropping to 105mm at 90mm focal length.

My new 24-105 is pretty sharp, not bad at all, but my Leica 24-70 is better (better contrast and sharpness in the edges). The difference may not matter to some, but the versatility and lower weight may matter.

Ich nahm an, dass es das war, was Sie in Post #125 meinten, aber anscheinend meinten Sie, auf 105 mm bei 90 mm Brennweite zu beschneiden. Right, that could have been misunderstood. In fact, I meant the 90 mm of my SL 24-90.

Just got it yesterday after having been without one for over a year. Among other great attributes, the bokeh at 90mm's is beautiful. I forgot how round the bokeh balls are from this lens. I wonder how the bokeh from the 24-105 rates vs the Leica's. Edited August 28 by thatkatmat
