Rostec is under sanctions in the US, Canada, UK, EU, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand. Anyone from one of these countries (or any others with similar sanctions) attempting to deal with Zenit or their agents could find themselves subject to criminal prosecution. Anyone in the West today may total a bit over 1 billion in population out of the 8.1 billion on earth, where in most parts of the world such political talk-points are ignored or disagreed. For whatever reason, to be fair, everyone's opinion needs to be respected, apart from capital-driven media.  NASA just relied on Russia's Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft to help carry NASA astronaut Loral O'Hara to the International Space Station (ISS) on September 15, 2023, which does not seem to be a problem.

I suspect the majority of people posting on this (Germany-based) forum are citizens of these countries, and for them it would be illegal to deal with Rostec or their agents. In the UK, for example: '[The Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation] has powers under the Policing and Crime Act 2017 to impose monetary penalties of up to 50% of the value of the breach or up to £1 million, whichever is higher, for breaches of financial sanctions. OFSI can also refer cases to law enforcement agencies for investigation and potential prosecution. Breaches of financial sanctions are considered a serious criminal offence and are punishable by up to 7 years in prison on indictment or up to 6 months for a summary offence in England, Wales or Northern Ireland (12 months for a summary offence in Scotland).'

More than 7/8 of the population on Earth is not bound by such measurement. It is not a question to debate the legitimacy of the sanction where it applies, just that most people in other parts of the world have different opinions.

People elsewhere are, of course, perfectly free to help fund Putin's largest supplier of weapons with useful foreign currency.

It's a prejudice to assume common people, in general, buy things as an act to fund war here or there. Â People have different opinions, and most don't relate buying a lens from Russia as an act to promote anything, or perhaps Zenit may end up selling a lot more from what I assumed was a very thin production output before the military conflict or after. The same argument may apply to buying Chinese goods as a support to the Chinese Communist Party's unwavering Uyghur genocide and suppression of Tibetans and other ethnic minorities. Â The motives of the purchasers don't change what they are (in a small way) actually doing. I imagine the sales of these lenses have plummeted since 2022; their distributors in the US and Europe (probably the major markets outside Russia) closed soon after the 2022 invasion began, I think before the relevant sanctions were imposed, with the operators making it clear they did not support Putin's war of aggression. You can of course argue about the ethics of buying lots of things from various parts of the world, but that quickly becomes whataboutery. This is, after all, a Zenit thread.

Indeed, I was posting images of the lens, I did not even buy it as I explained it was a gift to me from a friend, and shared information relating to a tool for photography purposes.
