I never tried the original edition, but the sample images on the product page look extremely interesting. Yes, it might be a one-trick pony for portraits, but you can't deny that the trick with swirling background is pretty neat It doesn't seem available for the M mount, but maybe someone tried it on a different camera system? It was showing as available a couple of days ago when the lens was announced. Perhaps they sold out the first batch and are making another.
