No to one and two .. And a resounding yes to better AWB, but to corrected AWB not speed. AWB may be of far more importance to the large majority of users, but not to the beta testers. So I assume better AWB is a lost cause, as is the loud shutter release issue.

I. Eliminate the necessity of pressing the "set" button once a given ISO, EV adjustment, etc. is selected. Instead, one should be able to confirm a setting by *either* pressing the "set" button *or* by lightly depressing the shutter button to return to photographing. Most pros working quickly will likely want to do the latter.

II. The photographer should also be allowed to optionally assign the "protect" button to a more useful function. Very few working photographers have the time to individually protect pictures on an SD card. In six years of working professionally with digital capture, I haven't once used the "protect" button on any camera. Instead, allow the photographer to *optionally* assign one of three setting functions to that button if he or she chooses. He or she could choose to assign that "protect" button so that it directly controls ISO, EV Compensation or White Balance. Again, once the selection is made, it could be confirmed by lightly pressing the shutter button.

III. The arrow keys on the control wheel could also be used to provided direct access for at least two digital settings. My thoughts:

A. When the LCD display is off, pressing the left arrow key could bring up the EV compensation menu.

B. When the LCD display is off, pressing the right arrow key could bring up the ISO menu.

With either A or B, the value itself would then be selected using the up/down arrow keys and then the selection could be confirmed simply by lightly pressing the shutter release.

I. No thank you. This would mean that touching the shutter release would confirm some settings and cancel others. I think that's bad UI design; I know it would give me problems.

II. Yes please, provided Protect still protects when in Play mode. The M8 is the only camera I've ever used the Protect button on, because it's the only camera I've used where a single button press can delete an image.

III. Only if it's optional (can be disabled by a menu option). These are the buttons I'm most likely to press by accident.

We got off track for a bit but we can be back on.

Again, what I need to know is whether or not you (the reader) are interested in seeing these changes implemented. This is a survey. To discuss pros and cons, propose alternatives, etc. please use the "Alernatives" thread.

Those of you who do support the changes, however, please do post and please note whether you are a current or a prospective M8 owner. Again, those who don't like them can drop by the other thread.

Please pass the word to other M8 owners.

Thanks,

Sean

Andy Barton is out but he'll sort out the off-topic posts by tomorrow.

If anyone else would like to respond to this survey and help move things forward, please do. Try to ignore the attempts to derail it for now and don't forget the magic of the "ignore" button.

Well folks, it looks like this survey has gone quiet. I'll include the responses in my discussions with Leica. Mark Norton, as he explained in another thread, will do his best (in several languages) to convince Leica not to make these changes. We'll see what happens but what a strange world this is where people operate with such diverse purposes.

By all means, however, if anyone else wants to answer the survey, feel free.

Cheers,

Sean

Regardless of the specifics, in just 2 days this Survey makes it obviously clear we have strong, strong support for "Faster Adjustments for ISO, EV and WB" on the M8 by reconfiguring certain back panel controls and menu settings and options.

OK, folks, I have had my dinner and been to bed. I have even had my breakfast.

The posts that were "off topic" here, have been moved to this thread.

M8 owner.

yes to quick ISO adjustment, the rest I can live without.

I actually would prefer the ability to use the 4 arrows when the screen is black to set automatically iso to 160 32 640 and 1250 :).

I think a menu that would let you set what you want on these keys as quick shortcut is the real solution.
