Hello Sean!

I agree with your proposal, but they should be selectable in menu (something like a professional mode).

1. Exposure Compensation

2. ISO level

3. White Balance

ISO: right arrow key

EV: left arrow key

WB: "protect" button

My priority is ISO-Level, than EV.

Purchased M8 in Feb. 2007

I think it's wrong to consider using the Protect and Arrow keys to initiate change in this way - to keep the user interface clean and unambiguous, all access to these functions should be through the SET key.

Notice how the menu only appears when you release the SET key, not when you press it. There is therefore a machine state available while the SET key is held depressed which is not currently used.

That's why I favour pressing and holding the SET key, then using one of the four arrow keys to nudge the setting you want in the required direction with the new setting being displayed after you press an arrow key.

Try it, you'll like it.

Yes. Please incorporate Mark's remarks. M8 Jan '07 + M8 Aug. '07.

Yes to all three, Pro M8 user since August 5th, 2007.

In my experience, all three of these features being buried in a menu setting made no sense at all. I use my M8 in mostly editorial capacity when adjusting on the fly and not fumbling with settings is paramount.

And despite what some are saying in terms of AWB not being as important, I would have to disagree. I always shoot the M8 in RAW, but often, I need to produce press-ready files en masse very quickly in post production with very little adjustments to overall output. Having the correct white balance setting right off the bat is all the more productive.

If Leica can introduce these changes, It would make these tasks happen in half the time or less. This would be an outstanding change for users of the M8.

Thanks Sean!!

Yes to all three changes proposed.

I am an amateur and do not take as many pictures as the pros do. I do not use the camera daily.

For me, the main problem is not changing the setting but seeing what the current settings are. When you turn the camera on there is nothing to remind you what is the ISO setting, the same for the EV and WB.

It would be nice if the current settings are shown (optional feature) briefly (adjustable, 1 or 2 sec) on the back screen when the camera e turned on.

Hi,

The point I made earlier is that while WB may not be important to many photographers (myself included) it can be very important for photographers in just the position you describe. So, I agree.

Cheers,

Sean
