Over the last few years Voigtlander has rolled out a couple of new 28mm lenses that have the combination of both good performance and an affordable price. They’re M mount lens but clearly meant for digital users. Closer minimum focus plus optimizing the optics for digital sensors makes them a good choice for a wider variety of users.
For film users with cameras that don’t offer 28mm frame lines, a shoe mounted viewfinder is the best option. Currently, new ones are the low cost ones from TT Artisan or Keks. Leica and Zeiss are premium products at a premium price. Oddly, Voigtlander offers a number of finders for their super wide angle lenses but none for the 28 or 35. Searching for a 28mm Voigtlander finder on the secondary market, there are less offerings and higher prices.

It would seem to make sense for Voigtlander to capture some of those sales if they are going to produce lenses in the 28 focal length. Maybe it’s just too expensive to produce for the small number of users who would benefit.

Dang, just saw that Voigtlander has 9 leica mount 28mm lenses in production!  Nine!

"you like this lens? no?  how about this one? no? how about this one?how about this one?how about this one?how about this one?how about this one?how about this one?how about this one?"

"Stop it, I can't take it anymore!  Fine, I'll take that one"

And that Ladies and Germs is how you make a sale.  You beat your customer into submission.

If Cosina can make one with Zeiss badging, why not make a slightly smaller version under the Voigtlander name? I realize it comes down to how many can they sell and is it worth the effort.

Well, they still make that a face only a mother could love 50 3.5 lens, and how many of those can they possibly sell?

With the current 28mm zone focus street photog craze, a 28 vf makes more sense.

Anyone with a 28 and an interest in street photography should watch a video of Andre Wagner, or Joel Meyerowitz, or any number of great street photographers and watch how they use an accessory finder. It’s almost a lost art in the digital age.

Exactly.  Same with Gary Winogrand.  28 + VF.  Which I think is where peeps like Andre got the idea from.
