madNbad Posted August 28, 2023 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Over the last few years Voigtlander has rolled out a couple of new 28mm lenses that have the combination of both good performance and an affordable price. They’re M mount lens but clearly meant for digital users. Closer minimum focus plus optimizing the optics for digital sensors makes them a good choice for a wider variety of users. For film users with cameras that don’t offer 28mm frame lines, a shoe mounted viewfinder is the best option. Currently, new ones are the low cost ones from TT Artisan or Keks. Leica and Zeiss are premium products at a premium price. Oddly, Voigtlander offers a number of finders for their super wide angle lenses but none for the 28 or 35. Searching for a 28mm Voigtlander finder on the secondary market, there are less offerings and higher prices. It would seem to make sense for Voigtlander to capture some of those sales if they are going to produce lenses in the 28 focal length. Maybe it’s just too expensive to produce for the small number of users who would benefit.
Advertisement Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Hi madNbad, Take a look here Will there be a new 28mm viewfinder from Voigtlander?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Huss Posted August 29, 2023 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2023 A 40mm finder would be nice too. Once upon a time they made one. Seeing that now they have seven Leica mount 40mm lenses in production, well howzabout it Cosina?
Huss Posted August 29, 2023 Share #3 Posted August 29, 2023 (edited) Dang, just saw that Voigtlander has 9 leica mount 28mm lenses in production! Nine! "you like this lens? no? how about this one? no? how about this one?how about this one?how about this one?how about this one?how about this one?how about this one?how about this one?" "Stop it, I can't take it anymore! Fine, I'll take that one" And that Ladies and Germs is how you make a sale. You beat your customer into submission. I realize it comes down to how many can they sell and is it worth the effort.

With the current 28mm zone focus street photog craze, a 28 vf makes more sense. Edited August 29, 2023 by Huss

Anyone with a 28 and an interest in street photography should watch a video of Andre Wagner, or Joel Meyerowitz, or any number of great street photographers and watch how they use an accessory finder. It’s almost a lost art in the digital age. Edited August 29, 2023 by madNbad
rramesh Posted August 30, 2023 Share #8 Posted August 30, 2023 (edited) Doubtful. A lot of Voigtlander users, use them on mirrorless cameras with viewfinders built in. More likely for the Chinese manufacturers like LLL to do this. Edited August 30, 2023 by rramesh

Which I think is where peeps like Andre got the idea from.
oldwino Posted September 1, 2023 Share #10 Posted September 1, 2023 If you make a lens in LTM mount, then you should make a viewfinder for that lens.
