Can’t log into my Flickr account

Due to inactivity on Flickr in recent months I’ve been logged-out of the application.

To make matters worse my yahoo.co.uk email address used to log into Flickr has been deleted by yahoo, again through inactivity.

I’ve created a new yahoo email identity,  <my details>@myyahoo.com, since my previous version is not available (I suspect I know why!).

There’s a total impasse now because Flickr won’t accept my new yahoo email (<my details>@myyahoo.com) because it’s expecting the now defunct original <my details>@yahoo.co.uk

Contacting Flickr I’ve been sent an automated response pointing me to the FAQs, but the case in question isn’t covered.

Any suggestions how to resolve this?

I cannot offer any solution, but I empathize, because the same thing happened to my Flickr/Yahoo accounts. I never used the e-mail, so did not see any warnings that were sent. I did not lose many images, probably less than twenty, but those that were lost are gone, forever.

I stand to lose 600+

Back in the days when yahoo owned Flickr I believe I’m right in saying a yahoo email was mandatory. Like you I never used the yahoo email again, so didn’t see any warnings regarding inactivity.

It’s a right bugger!

Could you not just log in under a different name etc and follow your previous persona or does Flickr actually delete the photos?

I have not posted to Flickr for many months but do log in every 8 weeks or so to look at the groups I follow. I can still get in without issue.

I suppose so, but I wish to use it as a storage and retrieval facility so one’s identity is important, ie to log in.
If you joined back in the days when a yahoo address was part and parcel of registering, I would recommend changing to your regular email address that is constantly in use, otherwise you could end up like me.

You could still store, albeit under your new guise. Not perhaps ideal but an option. I already have changed my eMail to my regular one.

Indeed.

I’ve sent an email to Flickr explaining the situation, requesting assistance. I’ll wait and see. There’s an option to include photo ID so I cropped a photo from my U.K. drivers licence (obviously didn’t want to give too much info, such as address, on any Internet forum).

I've never had a Yahoo email address but do have a Yahoo identity with a nickname and password, my email linked to my Flickr account has always been my own regular email address. This is how I still log into Flickr with my Yahoo nickname and password although my password has been updated over the years.

That is a dodgy business, using a photo hosting site as storage - as I found out with Photobucket going crazy - 400$ a year!! That was all links and my storage of hundreds of images lost. Why not use a proper cloud storage, or your own website?

It is!

In actual fact all my photos are stored on two hard drives having been processed in LR. It’s not that I value all of them them greatly, but there are a few I particularly like. Flickr is used more as a porting utility and for easy access, so it has value to me.

Switch to Flickr and don't let nasty people take advantage of you any more.

Flickr can work alongside any parallel universe you create, but it's a way for other people (photographers, friends, etc.) to actually see your images while you store them without having access to your database. You wouldn't 'store' full res files on Flickr for example, and then delete them on your hard drive, that would be stupid. And assuming it is less stupid you wouldn't store all your photographs on the iCloud either, would you?

I’m logged into Flickr on my iPad, but that’s on a wing and a prayer! As before I can not access Flickr on my computer for the reasons already mentioned, and my computer is the way I add new pictures to Flickr.

Having pressed all the virtual ‘buttons’ in the app on my iPad I can not see any possible way of changing my login details whilst currently logged in. (I could if I logged out but that would be daft!)

Anyone know if it’s possible to manage login details whilst currently logged into the app?

I was logged off for a very long time (beginning of the year maybe), and I managed to use my email to log on. All my photo's were still there.

You should be able to log on by just using your old email address as logon and your old password (as is being used by your iPad).

Try logging out of Flickr on your computer browser, and then log on again. When it asks you to choose an account, just choose 'Other' and enter your old email address. It should not matter that the email does not exist anymore for log on to your Flickr account. When you are logged in on Flickr, you should be able to change the email address linked to your account (not sure where).

If your computer keeps logging in on the wrong account. The easiest solution would be to use a different browser to log on with your old email address.

Dirk

HTH,

Thanks for trying to help.

I’m actually logged out of Flickr on the Web, so when I try logging in using my original Yahoo email address and password, Flickr is happy up to a certain point, but due to inactivity Flickr requires a verification code to be entered - and here’s the point - it’s trying to send the code to my deleted yahoo email address, deleted by Yahoo, again due to inactivity. Total impasse.

I’m logged Into Flickr on the iPad since I visit the site quite often.

If you are logged in via the iPad, is there an option to change your eMail address etc from within there?

That was my question earlier, I can’t see an option.

Oh well, better two thoughts than none.

Thanks for engaging with this Marc; as they say in brainstorming sessions no idea is a bad idea.

I’ve spent a considerable amount of my time on this issue now, learning I’m not alone in being locked out through inactivity with my now defunct yahoo email account. In hindsight I should have changed it to my regular email when the new custodians took over Flickr.

Flickr help require a copy of an official government document as proof of identity, such as a driver’s licence or passport, before they will consider changing the email login. I’m not comfortable doing that, so it looks as though I shall have to start again if I wish use Flickr.

Thanks for the clarification.

I read on the web that Flickr is in the process of de-coupling their accounts from the Yahoo emails that were in some way linked before. They warn about deleting the Yahoo email account before your Flickr account is migrated to the new system. I understand that is what happened without your will because the Yahoo account was terminated automatically.

I am probably lucky that I used my gmail account and still have it today. For now, I do not see any other option for you than sending a document that will prove your identity.
