Q3 BATTERY ISSUE

I've only had my Q3 since July and can generally only use it a weekends so the number of cycles is very low.  I've turned everything off that I don't use nor want to use, but it seems that the *#&# video does tend to turn itself on when NOT required and I Never require it!   If anyone knows how to turn it off permanently please let me know because it seems that Leica are ignoring this question.

I ordered an additional battery and have uploaded the latest firmware edition and so far, with the new battery and firmward, I've not heated up again and got a reasonable number of shots from it.   I'll experiement with the old battry later this week and what happens........ if it heats up or drains very quickly I'll be demanding a new battery.

I am currently on vacation and had some day trips. I can see no different behaviour to my former Q2. I only take photos, no video.
The day before yesterday we‘ve been in Siena and I had the older, smaller battery in the Q3. It lasted from 9am to about 5:30pm and around 250-300 pictures with some chimping and also using the perspective correction a few times, which I assume needs some more calculation power. Then I changed to the new Q3 battery which is still in the camera with a good 2/3 of charge left, after, scientifically accurate, plenty of images taken since.

I would say it is roughly the same as the Q2 was. With two batteries even a very busy day shouldn’t be a problem for fotos. As said, I don‘t know about video, as I don‘t use it..

I have a Q3 with its battery that was fully charged a week ago and it’s been powered off in my daily carry bag.  I took it out today and the battery was completely dead.  Camera wouldn’t even turn on.  I’ve never seen this before.  Anyone else experiencing this issue?  Is the camera possibly using power while powered off?

Hi everyone, I just purchased the Q3 and am also having similar battery issues.  In fact, I just noticed I was at 75% with very few shots taken, I turned the camera off for two hours, just turned it on again and am now at 50%.  Though the power was off, it seemed to be draining.  Anyone else experiencing this?  thank you

I did notice using the Q (116), I took around 350 pictures and 16 short videos, I needed 1.5 batteries for 5 and a bit hours of photography at a classic car meeting. What I did notice is when taking video the battery does drain, naturally more than simply taking a picture, so sort of expected. I have 4 batteries, so no issue. Just wonder if the Q3 will be better with battery usage but somehow I suspect not, with bigger files and so forth.

Those experiencing battery issues should try resetting the camera as it seems that their battery usage is untypical.

New to Leica community with Q3.  So far so good, other than battery issues.  I just ordered a 3rd battery.  Have run out of juice on two shoots already, with 2 batteries fully charged at start.  More annoying is how the battery drains inbetween usage.  Would it help to remove battery from camera, when not in use?

HOw do I reset the camera?

My Q3 does not drain the battery when turned off. Have you tried turning Leica FOTOS off?

The last menu entry in the main menu is "Reset Camera."

When I switch Fotos to the ‘off’ or ‘eco’ position, the camera automatically changes from the current active profile to the default profile although I have saved the amended ‘active’ profile. I’d appreciate any suggestions around this. Thanks.

Mmm, that's weird and totally unexpected.

So, how do you know you're 'transferred' to the default profile ?

When you select your amended profile, what does 'Leica FOTOS/Connectivity' show ?

I have set up a profile called ‘General’ for the regular settings I feel that I will use. While in that I have changed FOTOS to both off and Eco. I then saved the amended ‘General’ profile. However, on both occasions the camera immediately changed to the default profile as soon as I changed the FOTOS setting. I am checking this on the menu screen and if I also scroll though all of the settings page to get to page 4

How can we make sure any new setting is saved to your General profile ... 🤔

You are aware you have to go to 'Manage Profiles', then select 'Save as Profile', then select 'General' and then as 'Save as User 1' select 'Yes' ?

I wonder how much body/face/eye detect AF impacts battery life. I’d imagine there’s a lot of processing going on trying to detect people, even if the camera on standby. I normally just use single point AFs and haven’t experienced any battery life problems.

I often use eye detection, sometimes the camera does not go into eco mode for long period of time, probably because of the touch screen "touched" when walking around with the camera in my hand. My impression this then costs a lot of battery.

My general impression, battery usage was remarkably better with the Q2 but I still dare to go out with the Q3 without a spare battery. 🙂 With the very first Q I remember this was a no-go...

Best wishes
