Leica M4 black paint variations

Hi there,

 

quick questions, maybe here is an expert who can light me up.

 

i have two black paint m4, the third one will arrive next week.

the early one 1207xxx has a silver Lens release without a sorrounding circle

The second 12663xx has just a black release without a circle.

the third, 12666xx has a silver release with black sorrounding circle.

and another one, 12669xx has again only Silver Release like the First one 

im confused… can you enlight me?

There were variations, and it wasn’t a fanatic religion. Few film rewinds were comoletely brassC ithers were brass + steel (or alu?).

The Black Paint M4 had silver eyelets while black chrome hd blck eyelets...

Some variations were also custom made (balck ring around the shutter is custom)

what im curious about is, i never ever saw a another Version with black sorounding. Wheter in forums, nor in social media or leica dealers

I think the only M4 (black paint or chrome) I've seen with a surround to the lens release was a display dummy made up from an M3 body. Please post some photos of all your cameras!!

People have asked Dom Goldberg to install those stopperrs over the years. I remember the day my Noctilux unscrewed without warning.  I almost hat it done.

I had Don Goldberg install a lens release collar on both my M4 and M4-2 mostly because he had the parts and the experience of machining the body to set the collar at the proper depth so it wouldn't interfere with releasing the lens. He finished the M4-2 last month and informed me all he had in stock were silver collars.
