Snipe10 Posted August 6, 2023 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have a chance to pick up the 50mm for about $2800. Was going to go with the 28mm but is that a price I should jump on for the 50mm? Going on a M10R, thanks,
Advertisement Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Hi Snipe10, Take a look here 50mm lux 11891 or 28mm Elmarit 11677. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
madNbad Posted August 7, 2023 Share #2 Posted August 7, 2023 Which lens would you use more often?
Snipe10 Posted August 7, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted August 7, 2023 (edited) not sure, I thought a 28 as I have a Q2M but never had a 50 Edited August 7, 2023 by Snipe10
madNbad Posted August 7, 2023 Share #4 Posted August 7, 2023 If you have a Q2, then get the 50 Summilux for your M body. I never owned one but many posts on this site rave about it. It’s hard to go wrong by buying a Leica lens.
Snipe10 Posted August 7, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted August 7, 2023 That's pretty much where I'm at,
dpitt Posted August 7, 2023 Share #6 Posted August 7, 2023 50mm, definitely. You already have 28mm on the Q2M (although only in B&W) If you need a 28mm in color occasionally, it is easy to stitch 2 or more 50mm shots together.
Marley Posted August 8, 2023 Share #7 Posted August 8, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have almost the same setup as you. Had my first leica with the Q2M. Wanted to try the M system and bought the M11. First lens was between 35mm vs 50mm focal length. In the end chose the 50mm lux 11892 silver chrome version. Go for the 50lux! it is super nice. then save up for the 28mm.
RexGig0 Posted August 8, 2023 Share #8 Posted August 8, 2023 (edited) I am biased, in favor of the Summilux, because this Summilux-M 50mm ASPH was the grail-quest lens that drove me to add the Leica M system, in April 2018, and, more than five years later, remains THE favorite, with no regrets. I am also biased because I do not think that any Leica M 28mm lens is worth $2800 US, if I am the one paying for it. (I use vintage 28mm Leica lenses, Elmarit-M Version III, and threaded-mount Summaron.) I am also biased, because I continue to use my truly excellent Nikkor F-mount AF-S 28mm f/1.4E, on Nikon DSLRs. OK, having declared my biases, that seems to be a very good deal, on that Summilux, perhaps “too good to be true,” so, do be a careful buyer. Perhaps it is an honest seller, who has simply “priced to sell.” Many, many folks are trying to sell their Summilux ASPH lenses, both 35mm and 50mm, right now. Going on a M10R, thanks, The Summilux 50mm Asph is fantastic, the Elmarit is excellent...I have both but 50mm being my FL, I almost never use the 28mm. What focal length are you the most comfortable with?
