I've had lenses fixed by DAG before, that's who will be adding metal so the Minolta CLE reads the lens as a 40mm and gives the appropriate framelines. That's an interesting thought but I have two Leica 35mm lenses that I use most often on Leica M bodies. I've seen that you don't like this idea but my best advice would be selling the lens as is or asking DAG if they can find a normal flange for it. I don’t agree, for many their 40mm ceased to be useful when their last CL died. And given it’s a DIY job I applaud those liberated people who did the conversion themselves without getting sucked into the fear and trepidation associated with everything Leica. So it’s nothing special, and it keeps the price of the lens neutral but increases the usability. Of course it’s possible to try and remember how much to allow for around the edge of the frame on an M body with an unmodified lens, but using multiple lenses on a body and they should all trigger a similar instinct when putting the camera to the eye without an intellectual battle taking place. If you know how to use an optical viewfinder it is the easiest thing in the world to extrapolate a 40 mm field of view from 50 or 35 mm framelines.
