Modern ASPH Elmarit 28mm F2.8

Even when I stop down I get a Glow/Haze on bright areas..

You mentioned good results on film, even compared with the Elmarit 28mm, ASPH on film. That is to be expected because the 50 lux holds fine in comparison. If anything the difference between the two is largely due to the extra contrast of modern glass and coatings + the ASPH element.

In digital most of the differences can be compensated by adding contrast and clarity in PP. So in my experience the performance of the 50mm should be closer to the modern lens on digital rather than worse. I think that your 50 is not performing optimally and that these differences are not (yet) visible on film, but more visible on the higher resolution digital sensors.

Your MFT sensor is 20MP, and is of good quality (it should be better than my 20MP Gx8). Because of crop factor this is 80MP (x2 square) equivalent on FF. 80MP is more than enough to outclass any film when pixel peeping in terms of resolution. I am fairly confident the 80 MP is within reach of a good performing Summilux 50 V2, certainly if you only use the center part like on your MFT sensor.

My guess is that some sample pictures would confirm this hypothesis.
