egrossman Posted July 26, 2023 Share #1 Â Posted July 26, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) So B&H just shipped my Steel Rim. I had completely forgotten about this lens since it's been a while. The question I have is whether this lens is different enough from the pre-ASPH v2 or is the rendering similar? Basically do I need to keep both? Thanks. Erik
Advertisement Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Hi egrossman, Take a look here 35mm Summilux Steel Rim Reissue vs v2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
darylgo Posted July 26, 2023 Share #2  Posted July 26, 2023 Your new lens will have greater contrast due to the coatings, slightly less glow wide open, it does well with high resolution sensors. I'm in the process of selling my v2.

lifeandmylens Posted July 26, 2023 Share #5 Â Posted July 26, 2023 (edited) They're very similar. Â As others stated, the main difference will be the reissue will have higher contrast and less vignetting wide open. Â Glow should be about the same if your v2 is clean and has been recently CLA'd. Â I see no reason to keep both. Â I would use both for a week and see which you like better. Â I loved the idea of the reissue since it's 1) silver; 2) new with warranty; 3) 6 bit coded. Â But I didn't like the handling, so I kept my v2 and had it 6 bit coded. Edited July 26, 2023 by lifeandmylens
egrossman Posted July 26, 2023 Author Share #6  Posted July 26, 2023 (edited) My v2 is a later manufactured lens so glow is quite controlled. I’ll return the new reissue to B&H. My v2 is even coded by DAG. Edited July 26, 2023 by egrossman

I sold mine as “opened never used” after opening the box, and retained my v2 black aluminium Germany , and Titanium.  I was not filled with excitement regarding the overall build (against both v2 but especially next to the titanium version) and love the v2 performance. So I didn’t use it despite having been looking forward to using filters without the need for a hood   Edited July 26, 2023 by grahamc
