Here we go again...... ;)

I'll skip the pictures - would require too many, and I posted most of them recently on another "show your gear" thread.

M10 silver - 2017
M10-P black (2020?) - primary camera
M10-M black (202?)

My core lens kit right now is what Leica referred to as "the long bridge across focal lengths" in my 1981 M4-P brochure.

    21mm Elmarit-M 1983 6-bit upgraded
    xxxxx
    xxxxx
    135mm APO-Telyt-M 2014 6-bit coded

For the "xxxxx"s I substitute as desired

    35mm f/2.0 v.4 1983 - 6-bit upgraded
50mm Summicron v.3 1973 (not codable, but is my permanent selection in the camera menus)
OR
    75mm Voigtlander Nokton f/1.5 (2019-2020?) 6-bit hand-coded.

In reserve I have a selection of hard-to-finds, or backups. They do not get much use at the moment, but I am loathe to part with them, since I would likely end up shopping for replacements (a boring and expensive prospect!)

    135mm Tele-Elmar f/4.0 1970 - not codable, backup to the APO
    90mm Elmarit-M f/2.8 2006-ish? 6-bit coded
    28mm Elmarit-M v.3 1982 6-bit upgraded
    15mm Voigtlander Super-Wide-Heliar Aspherical V.III - date 20??, uncoded

Not all of the lenses, but I recently took a shot of the cameras. Will probably sell two of the Barnacks

for 35mm rangefinders, I use a Leica II from 1930 (it started life as a I, but was upgraded in 1933-ish with a III top, but no slow speeds) and a nickel Elmar 5cm from 1932. I also have an Elmar 3.5cm which fits well with the camera. It dates to 1940. I also use (a lot) my IIIa from 1939, with either a coated Summar 5cm (1935, so obviously coated later at some point) or a Summarit 5cm from 1956. That's my "modern" lens.

The only remaining M-mount camera I own is a nice special edition CL, which pretty much has a Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 affixed to it. Sometimes I will use the little Voigtlander Heliar 40/2.8 when I want to go "stealth".  Or my Elmarit 90/2.8 v1.  That new CV 28/2.8 is also looking interesting to me, though I rarely shoot that focal length.

Everything else is either a Nikon F2 Titan with a set of 35/50/105 pre-AI lenses, or a medium format something. I like the little folding 6x6 cameras from the 1950s a lot, and have several of those.

I try to keep everything is a steady rotation of use.

Advertisement (gone after registration)

I have my two digital cameras and two lenses on holiday in Wetzlar, so not much point in loading a photo:

  • Monochrom - silver chrome
  • M10-D
  • M-A - black paint

Lenses

  • 21 Summilux ASPH
  • 28 Summaron-M (silver chrome on brass)
  • 28 Summilux ASPH
  • 35 Summilux pre-asph
  • 35 APO Summicron
  • 50 Summitar LTM (silver nickel?)
  • 50 Summilux ASPH (silver chrome on brass)
  • 50 Noctilux 0.95
  • 50 APO Summicron (black chrome)
  • 75 Summilux
  • 135 Elmar - dead

Every now and then, I think I should reduce my gear, and I try; but I can’t seem to part with then. Each is different and has its charms and uses. The only duplication is the 50 Summilux and the Noctilux, but the latter provides the extra stop.

I love the M format, but I am unlikely to buy another digital M.  When the Monochrom and M10-D eventually die and cannot be repaired, the M-A will see me out.  I’ll probably sell down my lenses to one lens of each focal length when that happens.

M-A has black paint? I thought it's black chrome. Only MP has black paint

Except the M6 bottom right is now an M4-P and the 21mm on the canter M9 is now an ASPH version.

These days, I have two different pairs, for long photo trips. I either leave with

- 28 Summilux + 28 Summaron

or

- 35 SR original + 35AA (and a Ricoh GR21).

That's curious.  I can't imagine traveling with two versions of the same focal length.  I have a hard enough time choosing what focal lengths to take with me to Paris & Rome at the end of the year.  as we will be playing tourist, I think I've settled on 21-35-50, but then I'd be wanting a 28 instead of the 35.  Then, when I go out, I will go through the whole thing over again, which makes me wonder if I will just take a 35 ...

Such a dimwit!

But if I had to chose one only, it would be my favourite body (MP3) with my favourite lens (35 Steel Rim). Here is a picture of some of my steel rims mounted on some of my MP3s. I charge a dollar for each brassing comment.

Bodies:

M10-D

M10-P Safari

Lenses:

15 f/4.5 Heliar v3

21 f/1.8 Ultron

28 Elmarit v3 - (1982)

35 Summilux v2 - (1987)

35mm Summicron v1 8E (1964)

50mm f1 Noctilux e58 (1977)

50 lux v1 pre asph - (1960)

90 Summicron v3 (1982)

135 f/4 Tele Elmar (1965)

All of the Leica’s except the 135 are 6 bit coded. I have a few other lenses but I’m selling them. Considering adding in some asph glass in there like maybe a 35 Pre FLE.  Aside from that pretty happy with the kit…currently haha.

This is a great simple kit! Kinda similar to mine (8e & lux v2) but with newer versions of those lenses.

Used to have the LLL 8e, and it rendered wonderfully on the SL2-S and GFX 100S. Need to get another copy at some point.

Actually, these are all original, so I'm not to blame 😄 I did try the reissue but didnt like it. Don't want to get into it here (anymore), but knowing you I assume your tried it too, in which case I would not need to explain to you why this lens was a failure, because you must already know.

I did try it, and I agree it was a missed opportunity by Leica! Hehe : p
