sudorm Posted July 9, 2023 Share #1  Posted July 9, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I'm looking for a compact lens for my new (to me) M3 and came across this "summicron" on ebay which seems to be similar to the 50mm 3.5 elmar - is this a legitimate leica lens, and is it any good? Many thanks, Jack  Welcome, dear visitor! Lmax Posted July 9, 2023 Share #2 Â Posted July 9, 2023 Wow, Industar-based fake with 'Canada' is new to me.
sudorm Posted July 9, 2023 Author Share #3 Â Posted July 9, 2023 Thanks for the heads up! Think you nailed it. They're getting more and more creative.
jaapv Posted July 9, 2023 Share #4  Posted July 9, 2023 But it is a rather nice fake and I would not be surprised if it were a pretty decent lens. Industars can be quite reasonable quality.
sometimesmaybe Posted July 9, 2023 Share #5  Posted July 9, 2023 100% fake, but that's not to say vintage FSU glass isn't worth your time the m39 version is RF coupled. they go for around $100
Huss Posted July 10, 2023 Share #6  Posted July 10, 2023 The problem with these Soviet lenses is while they may be rf coupled, the LTM cameras they were mean to be used on had different film plane to lens mount specs than Leicas.  So unless you shim them they may not focus accurately.. That’s been my experience with a Jupiter 8 and the Industar 26.

sudorm Posted July 10, 2023 Author Share #8 Â Posted July 10, 2023 Everything I've heard says the industars are great lenses. The thing that bothers me is that somebody is trying to pass it off as something it's not. There's clearly malicious intent here.
a.noctilux Posted July 10, 2023 Share #9  Posted July 10, 2023 Kind of lottery 😇. Fun lenses... If the asking price is right, I'd give it a try. I do use some Jupiter lenses, LTM lenses with M adapter, J3 is very good and J8 is fine if a bit "loose", paid about 20 Euros and good news, the RF coupling is "usable". I have 2/85 J9 which never works concerning RF but not bad lens.
pippy Posted July 10, 2023 Share #10  Posted July 10, 2023 (edited) As has been mentioned a few times there are often focus-differences between FSU* and Leitz lenses / bodies and IMX (I have quite a few) it is best to avoid 50mm or longer FSU lenses unless you can try them out beforehand or else have a foolproof returns agreement. On the other hand shorter-than-50 lenses (again IMX) seem to be less problematic. I have a Jupiter-12 35mm f2.8 which uses the Zeiss Biogon optical design and it is an absolute stellar performer with the classic Zeiss 'look' when used on my digi-M bodies. It would, of course, have the same properties when used with a film body. Going back to the OP; one small (pun) giveaway was this 'Summicron' having an f3.5 max aperture............
