M6, M7, M4 etc Well, there was an M4-P, an M-P so to be completely inconsistent they called the film camera the MP. And then really screwed with us with the M-A. There is probably a method to their madness, but I have no idea what that might be.

BradS Posted July 12, 2023 Share #50 Posted July 12, 2023 (edited) The film inside and the resulting photos won't know or care whether the camera is silver or black or what style of rewind knob it has. These external cosmetic concerns are entirely subjective. Choose the one suits your needs or that lightens your spirits and get on with taking pictures. I have already chosen, a silver M-A is on a Fedex plane en-route to me. This is the most economic one among those 3. But @Huss said I would regret that because he is going to tell me how much superior MP is to M-A. Edited July 12, 2023 by Warton

Yes, M-A silver is another $120 cheaper than Black. I am going cheapest solution. Besides, I have m11 black chrome and m10-r black paint, never have I had a silver M. So... What's wrong with silver? I am not particularly keen to silver but I like to save $

But who knows, I may actually bought MP black paint. 🫠

Personally I think the silver chrome M-A is the purest, and one of the finest film Ms made. It's cleaner than the silver MP (no battery door), and finer (beautiful, if non-functional ASA dial on the back, compared to the MP's plastic one), and as @Huss pointed out, the lack of meter redout in the OVF leaves the framelines whole, unbroken. (In the end for my silver film body I switched to the MP because I decided the meter was worth it, but I do prefer the aesthetics of the silver M-A). Ultimately, what you paid compared the other options you considered won't matter that much. The "M" experience will drive you to take more pictures, or it won't, and the final "cost" in time, effort, film, developing, printing, will mean much more, as will - hopefully - the rewards for all that. I hope you enjoy your M-A. It's a really lovely camera. Let us know your experiences using it. Compared to your recent experiences with the M10-R and M11 you have, it will feel even more svelte in the hand, and even more 'instant' when you press the shutter (no start up or shutter lag). It's an addictive experience.

It's an addictive experience. Thanks for the kind words. I’m still waiting FedEx courier to knock my door. I have picked up all the tools I needed to get through the journey of film, including developing kit/chemicals, and I even surveyed a room at basement for the potential darkroom. But for now I’m going to use a micro-lens to scan the negatives before diving in this whole darkroom wet printing thing. Since you mentioned, one thing I felt about my M10R and M11 is that M10R feels a lot more existential than M11 I hand. I think it’s due to the top plate being brass as opposed to zinc. I hope M-A would yield similar feeling. Another thing you brought up, the iso dial at the back of M-A is really not necessary. It’s pure cosmetic. I feel the camera would be purer without it

And, if you prefer the brass top plate of the M10R, the M-A will not disapppoint. Sounds like you are well set up! All the best!

In the event that you have multiple cameras and are in the habit of using different film types often, it provides a means of confirming the type of film in the camera without having to stuff a bit of cardboard in the hotshoe or scribble something in pencil on the back.
