thorn Posted July 1, 2023 Share #1  Posted July 1, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was able to finally purchase the near focusing adapter for my 50mm DR. According to this website, there are at least two versions of the 50mm Summicron dual range lens as well as two versions of the eyes. My Summicron is definitely the second version in chrome and the eyes are the more simple in appearance. This photo (not mine) is the precise setup I have.  Welcome, dear visitor! I made sure that I always mounted and dismounted the eyes properly until a few days ago, when I made what might be an enormous error-- I left the eyes on after pulling the focusing ring back to the non-close up side, and, with the eyes attached, used the focusing ring to focus to some distance farther away. When I realized my mistake I panicked and immediately took the eyes off properly, I think. I say "I think" because I've been very tired and my memory of exactly what happened is fuzzy. If I want to focus on the close-up side, the focusing ring works smoothly but the movement is reversed- if I want to focus 2 meters away, the focus ring spins clockwise to focus farther away and the eyes will not attach at all. Conversely, if I want to focus up close up, I now have to turn the focusing ring counterclockwise and the eyes must be attached otherwise the focusing ring stays locked at the focus stopper (I don't know its proper name, the metal piece that stops the lens from turning without the eyes) situated at where the infinity mark should be, which is now located on the underside of the lens at the location where it should be if things were working properly. Is this something that I can correct on my own or do I need to have it repaired? Or is it possibly unable to be fixed? I mean, it technically isn't broken as far as I can tell, but it bothers me that it is no longer working as it should. I hope my explanation was clear enough, I'm extremely tired and the issue itself is already hard to explain. If necessary, I can take photos or make a video to clarify. I'm sorry if I was redundant in my writing. Rus Posted July 2, 2023 Share #2  Posted July 2, 2023 (edited) Maybe it's just me but I'm not quite clear from the descriptions what the issue seems to be. Perhaps a video of the operation of the lens might help illustrate the point. That said, from what I could gather, it doesn't seem to have any issues. The DR without the close-focus goggle will lock when the ring is pulled and switched to the close-focus side. The goggle when mounted presses in the little ball on top of the lens and releases the focus ring for focus movement on the close-focus side. And the focus ring will should not be able to be pulled back from the close-focus side to the 1m-infinity side when the goggle is still attached. Taking it off allows the ball to spring back up a little, thereby allowing the focus ring to be pull back to the 1m-infinity side. On the 1m-infinity side: to focus towards infinity, clockwise. To focus nearer, counterclockwise. On the close-focus side: to focus from minimum focus distance towards 1m, clockwise. To focus towards minimum focus distance, counterclockwise. BTW, you don't have to attach the goggle to release the focus ring on the close-focus side. You can simply use a finger to push down the little ball on top while turning the focuse ring, and it releases and allows turning all the way towards minimum focus distance, until you turn it back towards its starting position at/near the 0.9m/1m area, where the ball spring back and locks the focus ring again. I have both versions of the DR (although I only have the goggle for one ver.), but both versions operate the same way. Edited July 2, 2023 by Rus

I think I mainly needed some reassurance that things were actually working normally, as I am always a little afraid to use my Leica, because of its value (both sentimental and monetary), and then using a new attachment while very sleep deprived completely messed with my head. I finally slept last night, read your post, and realised that it's just fine. Thanks again
