davumgilburn Posted June 22, 2023 Share #1  Posted June 22, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I recently acquired a 35mm Summilux asph fle lens. I also purchased a Leica e46 iva ii uv filter (13033). I find when I put the filter on I am no longer able to screw the lens good on. I've read other posts on this forum which are similar but the suggested solution seems to be to use a leica filter which I'm already doing. Once I've fitted the filter I can screw the hood one some of the way but can't get it to screw down completely because the filter stops it. Added some images for reference. Any ideas? I'm keen not to use such an expensive lens without a protective filter.  Welcome, dear visitor! None of the new BW filters I have tried work under the Leica metal hoods. rramesh Posted June 24, 2023 Share #6 Â Posted June 24, 2023 Really if the filter is important, just use any good one (B+W, Tiffen, Hoya, Heliopan etc.). If a hood is needed, you can always use a step-up ring with a cheap hood. Keep the Leica hood in mint condition as I am sure its value will appreciate over time. From looking at the photo of your filter in your first Post, it appears that the filter is slightly less in diameter than the lens it is screwed on to for part of its circumference & slightly greater in diameter than the lens it is screwed on to in some other parts of its circumference. It is possible that the filter is slightly "squished". Therefore making it slightly oval. Instead of being round. You might try measuring the diameter & "squishing" it slightly (Very slightly.) and then measuring it again & "squishing" again until it is actually round. With the same diameter wherever you measure. It might work better with the hood when it is more round. Gentle is better, some people only hold the filter rim at 1 point when putting a filter on & when taking a filter off. Best Regards, Michael I agree with Michael.  In the very first photo posted it does not look like the filter is seated properly onto the lens. A simple test of the filter’s roundness would be to remove the filter and roll it on a table like a big coin.  It should roll completely evenly.  If it does not it is out of round.  If it does roll evenly, then the fault is with the threads either on the filter or on the lens.  Edited June 27, 2023 by Huss Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
