Keith (M) Posted June 15, 2023 Share #21  Posted June 15, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just had a quick trawl for 21mm SEM & M11 images on my MacBook and this is one example - imported into LR Classic, SEM profile applied, 'auto' clicked and exported as 2480px jpg.  Unlike when I had a ZM 21mm Biogon f2.8 on my M9, here there do not appear to be any corner colour-casts (or the dreaded 'Italian flag'!). I have no experience with the Biogon 21/2.8 but i suspect it would not cause any color cast on the M11, thanks to the latter's BSI sensor. Same for both my Biogon 21/4.5 and Super-Angulon 21/3.4. My gut feeling is that the M11 for whatever reason, is not applying the correction although its reading the code. one way to test is by fooling the camera into thinking that the lens is uncoded and then applying the 21/2.8 correction and seeing if that gives a better result. take a piece of white paper and lay it over the code reader before you mount the lens. my guess is that'll be enough to trick the M11 into thinking its an uncoded lens Aere is the lens auto coded as the Super Elmar 21 Welcome, dear visitor! Kwesi Posted June 15, 2023 Share #24 Â Posted June 15, 2023 im assuming the 21 SEM 6 bit code area is clean? Also perhaps try a white wall with about a one stop over exposure from the meter reading. Your images seem underexposed. not the cause of the problem but it does make it hard to see the magenta cast against the dark clouds. It may be worth it to restore camera to factory settings and try again.

Yes should be all brand new clean, as its all less than a week old..... and the images are coded correctly, so I am presuming the coding is either readable or not. Been busy with work but will test further - I did do a factory reset after installing 1.61, though not after trying this lens for the first time.. I also emailed Leica customer care with some sample images to get their feedback. Although yes, those images above were underexposed, the overall look of the manually encoded is still less magenta overall I would say Edited June 15, 2023 by thrang
lct Posted June 16, 2023 Share #26  Posted June 16, 2023 6-bit coding does not bring significant color modification in my experience, at least as regards color shifts or lack thereof out of BSI sensors. Just to show what happens when removing the Leica color profile from DNG files below (M11 + coded SEM 21/3.4 asph, f/8). With Leica color profile: Welcome, dear visitor! Perhaps the thing to do is to return it. This will at least rule out sample variation if the problem persists. Curious to hear what Leica has to say.

Photon42 Posted June 16, 2023 Share #31 Â Posted June 16, 2023 The sky is a complex object, especially with wide angle lenses. I think it has to do with polarisation and other effects, but take that with a grain of salt. If you want to check your lens regarding color casts, use something neutral like a uniform while or grey surface.
