Hello all,

Toying around with the idea of buying a Contax 645 Carl Zeiss 35mm F3.5 Distagon T wide angle lens to use on my Leica SL2-S for tripod landscape work.  Anyone use Contax 645 lenses in Leica L mount?  What was your experience?

Thanks for your responses,

Adam

Personally, I don't think you really have anything to gain by doing this. The lenses are big and heavy, and they are not really as good technically as more modern options. The native 35mm APO Summicron SL is one of the best lenses ever made, so if you can afford even a used copy of that, it is certainly the best way to go for landscapes. If you want a extremely sharp landscape lens but cannot afford or do not want the native lens, the 35mm Voigtlander APO Lanthar M will be compact, light and a better performer than the Contax. If you want character lenses, there are tons of 35mm lenses for the 35mm format that likely have the combination of atmosphere and performance that you are looking for in a smaller package...probably even Contax's own 35mm lenses.
