Advertisement Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Hi Huss, Take a look here Brightin Star XSLIM-M 28mm f/2.8 M Mount Lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Huss Posted August 24, 2023 Share #142 Posted August 24, 2023 FYI in use, using the UV filter AND the lens hood at the same time causes vignetting. So either filter, or hood.
DennisPT Posted August 24, 2023 Author Share #143 Posted August 24, 2023 @Huss I got a set of S31, S16 and skylight filter. Can’t wait to try them on this little lens. Thank you again for the information.
luuca Posted August 26, 2023 Share #144 Posted August 26, 2023 am I wrong or the film samples seem better on corners? I've just received mine, but haven't still developed the first film done with the lens.

This reminds me of lenses like the original CV 21 and 25 f4, where they were smeary on digital, but excellent on film. But... you don't pick this lens for perfect optics! The physical size of it makes that impossible. It is the trade off that you are willing to make. I just really happen to enjoy using it, and the results it gives on film. BS 28 2.8 vs CV 28 3.5. Incredible that the much smaller lens is almost a stop brighter! Excuse the blurry smartphone pic - didn't realize it missed focus until I uploaded it. Welcome, dear visitor! The fact that it provides decent to good IQ and a 2.8 aperture, at the low price point, really has me heavily considering it. Would be used on digital, so perhaps the flaws are more noticeable, but the uber compactness has me drooling lol

JoshuaR Posted October 9, 2023 Share #155 Posted October 9, 2023 (edited) I got this lens a couple of weeks ago and have been using it here and there on my M10 and M10M. (I haven't tried it yet on film.) I already own a 28mm Elmarit ASPH, but I figured I'd use the Brightin Star for those times when I want an as-small-as-possible M setup. I bought it straight from the Brightin Star website and paid extra for the super-tiny UV filter they're now selling. What can I say? The corners are smeary, but I can crop. The focus field is curved but in a charming (?) way. The colors are really nice. There's lots of detail in the center of the frame. There's a little glow wide open. I really like it on the M10M. I think it'll be great on film. I don't anticipate using this lens on an everyday basis, but I'm really glad to have it. Actually, one other thought: I wonder what it would be like on a digital CL? It would be 42mm-equivalent, f/2.8, super small, and sharp. That would be a really cool setup! Some recent snapshots from around the house and neighborhood: Welcome, dear visitor! hirohhhh Posted January 4, 2024 Share #157 Posted January 4, 2024 (edited) I just received my lens today, and I noticed that it doesn't click when being screwed on. Is this normal behavior? All of my Leica lenses click when properly mounted. I have never encountered a lens that doesn't do that, so before I potentially damage it by screwing it too hard, I wanted to check if yours behaves the same way. Also, I noticed that the MP is not listed as a supported camera for this lens on Brightin Star's official website. When I asked their support via live chat, they confirmed that the MP is not supported. However, I was suspicious that the person didn't know and just confirmed what I saw on the website. Despite my doubts, I still ordered the lens and mounted it on my MP without any issues. However, I have not yet had the chance to shoot with it. Can anyone confirm whether this lens works fine with the MP? Update: I noticed that Huss used his MP with this lens, so there is no doubt that it works. Please see my #10 post on page 1. The copy I have could be unlocked when I pressed the lens release button, without touching the lens. Despite this, the lens did click and stayed on the camera when I mounted it. Hope this helps.

Happy new year Dennis. Mine doesn't click, unlike every other Leica lens. With this one, I can fully screw it in and unscrew it without even touching the lens release button. It's pretty stiff, but I can manage to do it. I've never heard any click sound in either direction. On my M10-R body, it doesn't click either, but it does secure it. On the MP, I can unscrew it by hand, no matter how much force I put into tightening it. Update: It seems that I managed to fix it. I loosened the screw on the release button just a tiny bit, and now it secures it. I cannot unscrew it with my hands anymore. It doesn't click like my other Leica lenses, but at least it won't come off until I press the button. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to do that, but I saw the screw and thought, "screw it, let's do it! Edited January 5, 2024 by hirohhhh
NWPhoto Posted January 18, 2024 Share #160 Posted January 18, 2024 (edited) I purchased this lens last September and shot it all over Italy in the Fall on my M-P 240 Safari, but also my CL with L-M adapter. Impressed with the build and image quality, and how compact it makes the kit, for the money. Really nice when you want low profile, easy to stow when desired. I also have the new Summaron version, but it's a 5.6 iris. It's probably the only China lens I'll buy. I usually stick to Leica and Voigtlander. Currently shooting the BS on my new issue M6 film shooter. Love the clickless aperture for fine tuning exposure using the built in light meter.
