JimD Posted May 28, 2023 Share #1 Posted May 28, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Q2 Manual says this about the face detection feature: "The focus is set automatically on the faces closest to the camera." 1. If I have a group of people sitting at a long table, and I can only take the picture by standing at one end of the long table, will the face detection feature focus on all of the faces at the table (and calculate an average distance) or only focus on the faces closest to the camera? I'm guessing that it does just what the Manual says, so the people at the far end of the table will just have to be out of focus. I should mention that I am also trying to shoot this in low light at f/3.5 or wider and at no more than ISO 400. 2. So, my bigger question is: Does the Q3 handle this unique face detection situation any differently than the Q2?
Advertisement Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 Hi JimD, Take a look here Face detection focus for still shots...Leica Q2 vs. Leica Q3?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Qwertynm Posted May 29, 2023 Share #2 Posted May 29, 2023 If there is more than one face detected in the shot you get a yellow box with arrows to choose on which face the Q3 should focus on. Same with eyes. Hope that helps?
beewee Posted May 29, 2023 Share #3 Posted May 29, 2023 (edited) Select the face of the middle person in the long table, stop down for depth of field, and bump of ISO if needed or use AUTO ISO. This applies to all cameras. Edited May 29, 2023 by beewee
Budfox Posted May 29, 2023 Share #4 Posted May 29, 2023 On the Q2, with the FW5.0 update, you can also select the faces with the directional buttons (I just tested it on the Q2M).
JimD Posted May 30, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted May 30, 2023 Thank you all for your comments. They were each helpful. I just downloaded and installed the Firmware 5.0, so thanks for that tip, too. I do really like the Q2.
