I love the idea of finally getting the real Leica look for my Leica camera. 😂

I still find M11 colors harsh and Sony-like.  M10-R was softer and more Leica-like...  Is it just me?

Rumor says that Leica replaced the magenta cast by harsh pink on late M11 bodies 😜

Maybe you're using a high contrast lens with a profile in LRC other than Adobe Standard?

Not softer. Smoother.

Could be the thinner cover glass of the M11 allows for higher sharpness at the pixel level. However, when viewing the full image, there should be no difference.

Edit: I've found with the M11 it helps to reduce the default sharpness in LRC, which in my opinion is too much for some subjects, which can make them look "scratchy" for lack of a better description.

A bit harsh on a new member. Welcome Mattro.

Thank you! I deliberately added "I understand they're not for everyone - that's fine (Each to their own!)" to offset those types of responses. I'll have to work on my forum acrobatics.

For those who don't realise, "Leica Looks" are a film simulation saved to the jpeg from your camera. The M11 has "Standard", "Vivid", "Natural", etc - these are "looks". Film simulations. I think they're great, and want more to select from. Leica has made more to select from for the Q3, but not the M11. Hence my post.

On the Fuji X100V they apply to jpegs, but all the simulations are also in Lightroom - provided it was shot on a camera supporting them - so you can jump straight to a very similar look on your Raw files.  It's a really useful feature, and doesn't in any way 'get in the way' if you don't want it.

Agree 100% — one can apply the Fuji film simulations to the Fuji raw files in Lightroom and keep the benefits of ‘raw’ intact

I find this extremely useful, as the simulations offer different options as starting point for my own editing

Leica seems to try to catch up on this (e.g. using Fuji’s ‘chrome’ simulation name); but as long as these looks are only available in the FOTOS app, its not workflow-fit, imho.

Plus the Fuji simulations set a high bar; I wish Leica would start with a better whitebalance algorithm, then attend to film simulations…

@mattro Totally agree with you. I am pretty disappointed that we can't use Leica Looks on the M11. I understand the M11 is meant for RAWs but it would be nice to export a JPG straight from Fotos with some kind of preset applied for quick Social Media Shares.

I've gotten around this by using Cobalt presets (and adding them to Lightroom Mobile). Overall they are good -- but still I would like an integrated solution, and as you said it's disappointing that it's not available for M11.

Hello. Long time lurker, new to Leica (M11-P owner).

I too feel a little miffed that “Leica Looks” aren’t available to M series, particularly M11, as it is more than halfway into the “tech” side of analog photography.

Funny coincidence in culture - I’m also a Porsche enthusiast, and I see a lot of “purist” vitriol on newer technology seeping its way into the “true intention” or “spirit” of the thing. Bollocks I say! If I may use Porsche as an example, they understand/respect their roots, but also embrace technological innovation. It’s no wonder that manual transmission is no longer available b/c PDK is just so much more efficient (and fun). Also, they offer retrofit kits to all Porsches since the 1950s to replace the radio for a touch screen interface.

So, my point is, I believe Leica should/and will make “Leica Looks” available, perhaps we need to be louder in asking for it? From a customer/fan POV, Leica Q (Boxter/Macan) is a gateway into the world of Leica, SL (Cayenne/Panamera) offers outlets for those looking to switch from other brands (Sony, Canon, Nikon), and the M (911) series is pinnacle. Not having feature parity on their top offering is a perceived loss in value, I don’t believe a company that has been around for this long would be blind to this gap.

ill be waiting patiently, I suppose!

…steps of soap box 😺

I'll start by saying that during the film era, everything was less confused. And now the question arises, why do I need a Leica Look, if by building actions for the processing software, I can create my own 'Leica look'. So yes, I can understand the rationale behind Fuji whose core business is creating film and other photographic materials, reproducing their practical and intellectual property, and transferring it into the digital world. But between us, what about Leica and the look of photographic films (nothing and nothing, and please don't get confused with 'Bo-keh'), if the company never dealt with it.

My own Leica looks; my beloved wife.

I understand they're not for everyone - that's fine (Each to their own!). It just feels like the M cameras are the flagship, and the flagship doesn't get access to the new fun thing? It leaves a bit of a sour taste for me.

I know it's unlikely, but I wonder if Leica will ever make these available to the M11 via firmware update.

Fully agree . Silly way to exclude those  customers owning the flagship .

Yes good question @mattro and welcome to the forum. It's just that Leica are so proud of their so-called "Leica look" (nobody can define BTW) that the idea of several Leica looks sounds somewhat unlikely.

I thought it was well defined as smooth backgrounds with slightly out of focus subjects with good separation from background? You have to really use pre 1975 lenses or the very latest ones to get  the look lol. Remember though, It has to be sharp nut not too sharp 🙂 Sorry I have long been amused by the folklore that kicks in when a bad sample comes into play (or a hazy one for that matter..) Oh snap I forgot to mention micro contrast 😞

I interpret this as a request for Leica to provide camera color profiles for the different JPEG options in the M11 in software like Lightroom. This is something I have wanted for two years. There are camera color profiles for most Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, Panasonic and other cameras in Lightroom and other software products. It's telling that Leica has time for providing these apps they charge ridiculous price subscriptions but not time to provide these profiles for Lightroom that we pay thousands for these cameras. The M11 profile provided is a joke with wildly inaccurate colors compared to the JPEG colors. The adobe colors are fine but in no way match the Leica generated JPEGs.
