beewee Posted May 26, 2023 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would love to see Leica join Apple’s Find My Network program and add Apple’s Find My capability to all their cameras but especially the Q3 since it’s one that people are most likely to take with them everywhere. This would allow the camera to be tracked just like Apple’s AirTag. 1
Advertisement Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Hi beewee, Take a look here Q3 Feature Request: Apple Find My Support. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
nariza7 Posted May 26, 2023 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2023 So some cases on etsy for the Q2 actually have a storage slot for apple airtag at the bottom. If one comes out for Q3, that may be one workaround

If one comes out for Q3, that may be one workaround I’m aware of add-on accessories that allow you to attach an AirTag to a camera but what I’m asking for is actually to have this capability integrated into the camera itself so you do not need to purchase an AirTag and find ways to attach it to the camera. Basically, the camera will broadcast the same signals as an AirTag, Chipolo Tag, etc… and will work as if it has an AirTag already built in, same as AirPods, iPhones, MacBooks, etc. where you can find them without needing to attach some other accessory to it. Olaf_ZG Posted May 26, 2023 Share #4 Posted May 26, 2023 (edited) Why Apple? I thought AI is the new thing. If it can make images, it also must be able to find a camera… without joking, i do like the idea… (of Apple, not AI) Edited May 26, 2023 by Olaf_ZG Added last sentence
ianforber Posted May 28, 2023 Share #5 Posted May 28, 2023 I’m sure I’m not the only one to suggest this to Leica. I wonder if the Q3’s electronic contacts on the baseplate would allow a handgrip to have this functionality built in?

In theory, yes, but the handgrip would need a transceiver and an antenna, and it has to be powered.
jaapv Posted May 28, 2023 Share #7 Posted May 28, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am not that impressed with AirTag. It is a Bluetooth tracker with a maximum reach of a few dozen meters. In order to work outside that area it needs an on-line iPhone within Bluetooth range. Outside urban areas that is by no means a given.
beewee Posted May 28, 2023 Author Share #8 Posted May 28, 2023 AirTags work surprisingly well. At least in North America. All iPhones will pick them up and contribute to updating the last known location and there are about 1 billion of them floating around in active use. The beauty of this is that you don’t have to be anywhere near your AirTag to be able to get updates. As long as another iPhone user is nearby, it will update the location of your AirTag.
