didier Posted May 21, 2023 Share #21  Posted May 21, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) My ‘lux 50 asph is as smooth to focus as my smoothest Leica Lenses are. Absolutely no problem. And it has been for almost 20 years. The focusing tab helps guarantee perfect operation. I added last year the BC version which has a different feel, and very nice (brass) to use; but not as quick with the Berg and Tal focusing ring (beautiful but maybe not as practical (for me) for quick operation)
Advertisement Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Hi didier, Take a look here 50mm f/1.4 ASPH - stiff focus?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
yanidel Posted May 21, 2023 Share #22  Posted May 21, 2023 I owned one and the stiff focus + short focus throw were the reasons I sold it. It was just too difficult to constantly nail focus at F1.4 when shooting street photography. If you shoot a more static kind of photography, it shouldn't be a problem though, this lens is optically wonderful. I currently own the 50mm Summicron IV (with the focus tab) and it is much easier, though I don't like its short focus throw either. So my go to lens is the 60mm Hexanon which is the easiest to focus in action.
lct Posted May 21, 2023 Share #23  Posted May 21, 2023 50mm lenses with focus tabs have a short focus throw generally. Only exception i have experience with is the early Elmar 50/2.8 which has a long focus throw and a focus button that i find painful to use for this very reason. Lenses like Summilux 50/1.4 v2 or Hexanon 60/1.2 have a long focus throw wihout focus tab for the same reason i guess. I have no experience with the Hexanon though.

Erwin Puts if you really want quality Leica writing (though not on the new products since he is no longer with us).

But if you read the thread above, you'll see that other users had similar experiences. So it doesn't hurt to ask or research before making this kind of purchase. RayD28 Posted May 23, 2023 Share #26  Posted May 23, 2023 Buy from a reputable dealer if you can’t test the feel of the focus ring on-site. if the focus is stiff you can return it. My v1 is smooth as butter and easy to focus with one finger.

I did read them I've got a Lux ASPH too. It's my favourite lens of all time. I've also had 2 copies of the v5 Summicron, amongst over a dozen other Leica lenses in the past. The focus feels different with the FLE, but I have never once thought it was "stiff" like an old vintage rangefinder lens could be that requires a service. Test one in a store if you're worried, but I doubt it's an issue to any but the fussiest shooters.  5 hours ago, Jeff S said: He’ll also offer guidance on the afterlife… https://huffparanormal.com/  Jeff And you've just absolutely ruined him for me!
tedd Posted May 24, 2023 Share #29  Posted May 24, 2023 Maybe Huff can collaborate with Puts on a new edition of the Leica Lens Compendium?

yanidel Posted May 25, 2023 Share #31  Posted May 25, 2023 Must not be easy to blog about the same things for 15 years. Took a heavy toll on Eric Kim who seems to have become insane of late. At least Steve seems happy about his new turn and doing fine. Great guy.

Hanging out with Seal...reviewing cameras...then audio stuff...then dead people stuff. Nothing wrong with it as long as you don't hurt anybody. The more experiences the better. julianf73 Posted June 1, 2023 Author Share #36  Posted June 1, 2023 Update: I bought a used but 'like new' 50 1.4 summilux. The focus ring is amazing, really smooth and a pleasure to use. 😀 So yep, you can't believe everything you read on the internets. BTW, is the earth still flat? 🤣🤣
tedd Posted June 2, 2023 Share #37  Posted June 2, 2023 Enjoy it! I suggest taking a photo of a static object at 1.4/close focus and confirming that the focus is accurate (it almost certainly will be). This eliminates worry about the lens when you miss focus all the time as you focus then recompose (at least if you're like me)! I don't know how people nail Noctilux shots 🫠
