I like the look of the old Lux better than that of the ASPH.

You-are-not ...alone.

Many years ago, after decades of old 50mm Summilux-M happy use I tried out the new asph.

After first "Whaouh" effect of the nice asph. lens, I pondered on results and found that the lens is indeed very "perfect" optically but lacks

"soul" of the old design with flaws.

I think I like mastered flaws better than "perfect" result in my pictures.

I do understand though users who love the asph perfect results.

We are all different and we are lucky to have such choices.

With time, I keep three pre-asph Summilux-M 50mm in different periods and "bodies",

the asph. was sold to a young photographer who uses it better than me.

If not done, have a read in this link

for focus/distance scale in new and old Summilux 50mm :

- rapid shallow scale on new to accommodate 70cm mdf

- slow but precise large scale on older "1m" mdf

...

from Leitz/Leica brochure...

YANA, a Doctor Who reference by any chance? :D
I couldn't agree more! While I go for the technically best lenses (I can affort) with the SL System, with the M I tend to take “soul” over “perfection”. Because the M is the camera that I just try to take along everywhere, so it's far more important to me that I “like” the camera and lens.
