timbarker13 Posted May 11, 2023 Share #1  Posted May 11, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) This may be a stupid question, but I've been away from rangefinder lenses for a while. I just bought an M10P and got this new Voigtlander 35 Ultron to go with it. I opened up the lens box and found this. I'm thinking that I should not be seeing this much helicoid grease on the lens.  Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Hi timbarker13, Take a look here Voitglander 35 Ultron. Is this normal?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rramesh Posted May 11, 2023 Share #2 Â Posted May 11, 2023 It happens sometimes. Maybe too much or may due to shipping mode. Just wipe it off and use the lens.
chris7273 Posted May 11, 2023 Share #3  Posted May 11, 2023 I would send it back immediately.
Ba Erv Posted May 11, 2023 Share #4 Â Posted May 11, 2023 Look at the bright side...you got a new lens and you have enough grease to lube the wheels on a locomotive.
hdmesa Posted May 11, 2023 Share #5 Â Posted May 11, 2023 (edited) Looks like Voigtlander is getting passive aggressive about complaints of stiff focusing on the 35 Ultron. I would exchange that for another one. That grease needs to be thinned out in areas you can't reach. Edited May 11, 2023 by hdmesa

Then I saw why.
Emtsoh Posted May 11, 2023 Share #7  Posted May 11, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have the same lens. Totally fine. Smooth and performs. Same amount of grease on mine too. At the beginning I was sceptical until I used it on various occasions without any problem. I would not exchange it or return it. It works perfectly (and yes, you do not pay Leica prices thus no wonders - nevertheless the image quality of that model is more than OK).
Jeff S Posted May 11, 2023 Share #8 Â Posted May 11, 2023 If you bought from CameraQuest, just call Stephen Gandy and ask. Â He also provides a 30 day return policy, no justification required. Jeff

skahde Posted May 11, 2023 Share #10  Posted May 11, 2023 Bought a brand new Summicron 50 mm v5 back in the Nineties which had a comparable amount of grease on the visible part of the helicoid. Whiped it a away, never thought of it again.
