Hello all,

I would like to show a few pictures from my last holiday in this thread. The trip was to the Isle of Thanet in north-east Kent. I photographed exclusively in black and white and most of the pictures are long exposures with an exposure time of two minutes. The camera was a Leica SL2 and I used lenses from the I series by Sigma.

I am happy to receive comments, questions, criticism and suggestions for improvement. But please be considerate of my mediocre English.

Our holiday home was in Broadstairs, so I'll show a few pictures from there first.

We had a rising tide and during my two-minute exposure my path back to the beach became narrower and narrower. But I still came back without getting my feet wet ;) .

One of the most photographed subjects in the area has to be "Another Time" by Antony Gormley in Margate. The first time I tried it, the water was too high, only the head was visible. But a few days later it was right. But I could have used a bit more focal length than 90mm.

One of my favourite places in the area was Minnis Bay in Birchington. So here are a few pictures from there.

Not far from Minnis Bay was the village of Westgate-on-Sea. This time a slightly shorter exposure time (about 10 seconds).

We were also in Ramsgate on a rainy day. Still, there were some nice pictures in there.

Ramsgate.

That's all for today. More may come in the next few days, but first let's see how the pictures so far are received ;) .

However, two things struck me as very negative during the trip:

  • most of the public toilets were still closed in March, and the outward impression suggested that perhaps it should stay that way :(.
  • many pubs did not offer ale on tap. There was Amstel and Moretti and ale from the bottle for sometimes more than 5 GBP :(. Is English beer culture going under? That would be a great pity.
