PMCK Posted March 15, 2023 Share #1  Posted March 15, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) The front of my V4 50mm Summicron (s/n 3572241) unscrews. I though this feature had been abandoned by the time the 4th version had arrived so, if this is a fault should I lock it with some appropriate adhesive? Advertisement Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Hi PMCK, Take a look here 50mm Summicron V4 front unscrews. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RayD28 Posted March 16, 2023 Share #2 Â Posted March 16, 2023 Found this. Â Â I always hold the base of a lens when mounting or dismounting. Â Twisting the front element to mount or dismount a lens might loosen the front. Â I personally would not use nail polish or other adhesive on the lens. Â Hand tighten and you should be good, but I'd wait for others to give their advice. Â BTW, I have a version 4 and I've never experienced any looseness. PMCK Posted March 16, 2023 Author Share #4  Posted March 16, 2023 Yes, maybe change it for a V5, although I might go even further and get a Summilux.....or does the Summilux also have a front end that keeps unscrewing? I had a 1983 version but sold it a long time ago so can't remember. Getting into gadget acquisition syndrome here. Return to reality with a quote from Edward Steichen: "No photographer is as good as the simplest camera". RayD28 Posted March 17, 2023 Share #5 Â Posted March 17, 2023 The V5 has the same optics as the V4, sans focusing tab. Â I'd figure out why the front element is getting loose after hand tightening. Â Otherwise it might be like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. A Summilux ASPH is another matter. Â The finest lens I've ever used and I don't recall anyone having anything bad to say about it. Â I'm sure if you twist the front element it too will loosen. Â Hence, I determine why your current lens' front element is loosening. Â
