So the logical decision should be to sell it. But on the other hand I know that getting a new one now is much more expensive [...]

Then the logical decision should be to keep it, this way you will sell it for more than what you paid for it in 2015 :D. Not kidding that much since i got mine for €5.2k in 2014 and i could sell it for about €6k today. The problem could come from a new 50/2 non apo which would be so good or with new features such as devaluating the then apo. An 0.5m MFD by example. Pure hypothesis on my part.

Well, I have a Summicron v5...you sell me your APO for a moderate price, shouldn't be a problem if you don't use it much, and I'll answer your question 🙂

what is a moderate price?

Just kidding, sorry. I am not after a 50 APO, I have got enough 50's...my favorite focal length.

Your question is certainly valid before buying the lens, but once you have it, just enjoy, it's a great one 🙂

If you have to have a 50f2 APO just buy the Voigtländer version. Other than vignette wide open you’ll hardly see a difference in every day use.

As a former M 50 APO owner, now Voigtlander APO Lanthar, I believe the latter is exceptionally close in many aspects. Remarkable what Voigtlander has achieved for the relative price. The main difference IMHO is the longer size of the Voigtlander, which cuts more into the framelines, and this is clearly more noticeable with the lens hood attached. It’s even more noticeable when you compare the even longer 35mm version of the APO Lanthar (exacerbated even more with its wider 35mm framelines) vs the new’ish 35mm Summicron APO. In that sense, what Leica achieved with a really small yet near perfect M 35mm APO is remarkable!

Yea the size of the APO-Lanthar is quite annoying. The weight also. But at $1,000 vs $9,000 you can live with it 😀 …

Also we should mention the build quality of the 50 APO-Lanthar is the best Voigtlander offers. Very good indeed. I enjoy the character and the size of my regular 50 Summicron more.

I remember taking a photo of water lilies and tiny bees. That APO-Lanthar was so sharp I could crop into the tiny bees which were maybe like 6mm in length and see all the details in the wings. And the photo overall looked a bit cartoonish because it was just so sharp and saturated.

The normal Cron has this beautiful organic realistic look to it. I enjoy the Mandler lens very much. A classic. I don’t think I’ll ever sell it.

Is the 50mm APO-M really that much better than the normal 50 Cron?

do you see this difference in quality in regular sized images?

Regardless of how good the 50mm apo-summicron might be according to others, if you don’t use a £6k+ lens enough to justify keeping it the obvious thing to do is sell it.

If you rarely use the 50mm apo-summicron, why would you want the cooking version anyway?

For balance, I have a v5 summicron and see no reason to change it for the 50mm apo-summicron.  If I routinely made prints of A2 and larger, I’d give it some thought.
