Haven’t tested with smaller aperture since DoF would be larger. But it’s very visible, I don’t think it’s focus shift. If it is, then it makes focusing with the viewfinder completely unusable and I would not keep the lens. Sorry to hear that. That’s definitely not focus shift if it happens at f1.4. I avoided sending mine in after I heard it would result in months of waiting. I assume it’s going to be ~3 months, but so far I’ve received zero official info on estimated time. Kind of a crappy experience given the price.

That is a serious dream crushing number. I thought the 7 months I read on the forums was specific to film bodies (not lenses)? 🙏
Qlan Posted July 13, 2023 Share #83 Posted July 13, 2023 (edited) It's possible what I experienced is just strong focus shift instead of back focusing. Anyone else can test? My portraits at f/2.8 and f/4 are all back focusing quite a lot at mid-distance (1m to 3-4m) using the rangefinder, and I get perfectly sharp pictures using live view. If that's a "normal" characteristic of the lens, then it's unacceptable for me, and I will seek to sell it/return it. (I sent the Lens to Leica for repair... Not expecting it back for a few months) Edited July 13, 2023 by Qlan

grahamc Posted July 13, 2023 Share #85 Posted July 13, 2023 (edited) Last year I bought a used lens from a Leica classic store in a Europe , it was not calibrated properly when it arrived so the day I received it I sent right away to Leica service for assessment / fix. Lens was diagnosed as not properly adjusted although when it was sent back to me a couple of months later it was unfortunately still not calibrated correctly. So I sent it back a second time, this time to Wetzlar. Assuming they get it right this time, by the time I get an acceptable product it will be almost one year after I originally purchased the lens. Is there any recourse under European consumer protection? I think that perhaps European consumer law gives the retailer the right to repair rather then replace or refund so I haven’t caused a fuss so far. Just confirming @Al Brown you are correct on the 7 month repair wait. I was able to get it in writing from Leica (via email). They have offered to look into giving me a loaner which I do appreciate.
RexGig0 Posted July 16, 2023 Share #87 Posted July 16, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) First impressions of my newly-received 2022 Steel Rim are good. The aperture ring does not wobble or rattle. Nicely damped. The focusing ring feels nicely damped. It is slightly stiffer near infinity, but not a bother. Releasing the lock, at infinity, is not a bother. I have not normally been a fan of focusing tabs, but with such a small lens, the tab is more necessary, and, I am liking the ergonomics of this one. The flared, plastic hood, part number 12487, does not wobble to a bothersome degree. I like it, thus far. I had thought that I would keep this hood in the box, to preserve it for potential re-sale value, but, have decided to let it work for its living, at least for now, when I am not using a filter. (I use colored filters with my Monochrom 246, but not so much when using my M10.) I have not yet used the included E46-threaded metal hood, so cannot yet comment on hard vignette. Having not yet updated the firmware, in my cameras, to recognize the newly-issued lens, I shot at f/5.6, where vignette correction would not be needed, but it was far too sunny to shoot wider than f/5.6, anyway, in the time that I had available. (My wife wanted to attend a “moth night” event*, in the evening, where I only wanted to carry one camera, for shooting the wee beasties with a Nikon 70-200mm f/4G telephoto that is good for general photography as well as being halfway decent for insects.) I shot with lens correction “off.” Perhaps I can shoot some late-day images, this afternoon, into the evening. With the heat persisting in the 90s F well after sundown, I did not want to carry two cameras. *My wife is a Texas Master Naturalist, and this was one of their local educational events. “Ento” is becoming quite a thing, among the current generation of school children, with adult amateur entomologists being as serious about their insects as birders are about birds. mediumformula Posted July 19, 2023 Share #88 Posted July 19, 2023 Does anyone have a picture of the 6-bit code on the lens flange? Would this be a reasonable code to apply to the CV Nokton 35/1.4 MC II?

Multi-coated is way less so.
setuporg Posted November 8, 2023 Share #90 Posted November 8, 2023 I was curious about this lens and am glad I checked here. OMG, what a disaster! Are the new copies at dealers now safe? I'm assuming the only way to get one is from a retailer with solid returns and test it immediately?
costa43 Posted November 9, 2023 Share #91 Posted November 9, 2023 (edited) Wait times for CLAs at Leica Wetzlar are currently 3 months for production lenses and 5 months for older lenses. I had this confirmed on correspondence I received last week when I sent a lens for a CLA. Welcome, dear visitor!
