Steve Ricoh Posted February 5, 2023 Share #1 Posted February 5, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone souping their C41? If not, why not! I’m not into home development of C41, so asking here if anyone knows of a U.K. based lab willing to process? Contamination is a major factor, most labs won’t entertain the process, so practically speaking the roll has to be developed on its own (or in combination with similarly pre-processed films). Advertisement Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Hi Steve Ricoh, Take a look here Film Souping - where to get your films processed in the U.K?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
250swb Posted February 5, 2023 Share #2 Posted February 5, 2023 I don’t know of any labs that would touch it, but given C41 at home done properly is as easy as developing B&W I’d have thought doing it badly should be even easier! I’ve not heard of ‘souping’ before other than common slang for simply processing a roll of film, shame the phrase has been appropriated to mean something else.
LocalHero1953 Posted February 5, 2023 Share #3 Posted February 5, 2023 (edited) At the moment I don't take enough colour film to justify the chemistry and its safe waste disposal. I agree about slang - I don't have a problem with it, but it's hard enough keeping up with other cultures' slang, without it being use with a different (or misunderstood) meaning. Steve Ricoh Posted February 5, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted February 5, 2023 (edited) I’m in the same boat in that I’m not using C41 frequently enough to make DIY viable. For standard processing of colour I have been using AG photo lab and would also recommend the company. They won’t, however, touch ‘souped’ film, but this outfit will: https://www.traiaphotolab.co.uk/product-page/souped-film-processing Edited February 5, 2023 by Steve Ricoh
Bikie John Posted February 8, 2023 Share #5 Posted February 8, 2023 You could try asking at Salisbury Photo Centre: https://salisburyphotocentre.co.uk/ They are genuine independents and know what they are doing (and are good folks so worth supporting). They may be willing to do individual films by hand, thus avoiding problems with your soup affecting other C41 customers' dinner Of course, even if they are willing to do it, it will cost. Good luck with the search ... John
