I have no complaints about its sharpness. Earlier today.
50/1.4 SL at 1.4.

Another feature story in LFI where only the SL 50 1.4 was used by Cédric Viollet.  Some nice images in there.  I really like the opening image.

Perfect example of striking art made by someone who probably could have used a kodak funsaver and gotten amazing images.

Of course, it helps to have a $6k lens...  :)

And another feature using the SL 50 1.4 from LFi by Jarle Hagen.  I know many of you may have seen these on Leica's site.  Shot with the SL.

Does anyone else think that these images from LFi have a M type vibe to the images?   Perhaps I have consumed too many M50Lux images lately.

Either way, I am the proud owner of a SL Lux now thanks to the encouragement around here.  It has been a dream lens for some time - auto focus with the beast.  I hope to produce memorable captures with it.

I was being serious. Saw a blind comparison with SL Lux, M Lux ASPH, M Lux pre ASPH, Sigma ART and Voigtländer Nokton.

I immediately spotted „my“ M Lux ASPH but (to me) the SL rendered quite similar (spectacular).

I’d just never consider the SL due to the size issue and will stick to the M lens with a light AF alternative.

The problem is that for the majority of SL shooters, the CV and Sigma lenses are around 85% of the Leica lenses picture quality but at about 1/5 the cost.  These numbers are my opinion but you get the point.  And that's the point with 'luxury' products:  law of diminishing returns.  Now, if you make $$ with the SL 1.4, even better.

I guess Leica releasing the new less expensive 50 f2 and 35 f2 lenses is Leica's response to this; well worth the $2k or so if the quality is on par with the 50 and 35 APO lenses.

I wonder how much post processing they did on these shots...

You may refer to the photos, but there is substantial in camera optimization when using the SL 1.4/50. As far as I know, the MTF curves Leica publishes, are pre-optimization. There is no in camera processing for the APO-SL 50mm (and 35mm). They deliver a perfect image. Also, the Panasonic-S Pro 1.4/50, which fully matches the performance of SL 1.4/50, needs substantial in camera optimization to correct distortion. This is true for several Sigma Art lenses as well.

The APO-SL 50 raw files contain slight distortion corrections applied at import. The APO-SL 35mm does not require any modifications.

(The corrections are applied by post-processors, not in the camera)
