Has this ever fallen off on anyone else's camera?

Never heard about or seen, wouldn't think this is a general/known problem. And it shouldn't happen, clearly. Need a trip to Wetzlar to be fixed, implying some time without that body. As professional, you may get a body for loan in between, check with your store or national representative.

I ordered another one right after posting this, but I'll check the Leica store tomorrow and see if that's an option. I've never heard of a loaner program through Leica though.

It is not a formal program but they often do on a case-by-case basis.

You should contact Leica service in NJ since you are in the US.

Don't forget to ask your dealer for a loaner as well. They may have one on hand, and they should have some pull with Leica NJ.

Thanks for the tip, I'll ask. I got them through Leica SF, they're super kind and seem to have a lot of weight in the Leica world. We'll see!

Follow up - Leica *does* offer loaners, but they're based on availability, and they need to have received the broken camera first. Overall, great, but I have a wedding out of the country this coming weekend, so won't unfortunately work for me. Still needed to buy an extra body.
