Got mine in September 2012, so it's in its 11th year with me. I've fallen a little bit out of love with black and white photography these past couple of years, but I could never sell this camera. It's been everywhere with me, it's like an old friend.

The base plate is off my old M9-P, that's why paint is coming off it. I doubt it's possible to brass an M Monochrom base plate.

My current setup. A new m10m is on order, and most probably the m9m needs to go…

First it silvers (the Nickel undercoat) In theory you can get through the Nickel to brass.

My M10M is just a month short of its third birthday whereas the 5cm Summicron LTM is just a little bit older... ;)

It is still the most desirable one IMO.

My M9M is more than enough for me. I never push it beyond 3200 ISO, and if you have fast prime lenses, you don't really need any more. To my eyes, there is a sweet spot in the ISO range, and that is 1600. In poor light at 1600, the images look wonderful. There is a hint of noise which reminds me a great deal of the grainy look that Fuji Neopan 1600 had. I really loved that film stock. I find that at low ISO settings, the M9M images are sometimes a bit sterile, almost too smooth and sharp. I prefer the look of genuine black and white film in daylight.

But, to me, the M10M looks very desirable, and my interest is piqued by the potential of the upcoming M11M. Not that I'll be upgrading, but I'm always interested to see what Leica are doing with new equipment.

There is no point in trying to get digital files to look like film. Photographers like Alan Schaller and Ragnar Axelsson embrace the smooth and grainless look of the more recent M Monochrom models, and they make great work.

I suppose I'm just curious to know why you rate the M9M as the most desirable? The rendering from the sensor perhaps? Purity of the design? The limitations?

Just got the Hektor 2.8cm f6.3 for the M10M with the period-correct viewfinder (not that it’s needed on the M10M but it’s just such an awesome design - plan to use it when sticking it to the M3) : )

Any users of this lens with the MM?
