My new M10-R, only 2 years late ...

As usual, I am behind the times!! I am a big advocate of the M240 series. Although I loved the M8 and M9, and at base ISO they have an acuity look which still can't be replicated, the M240 brought with it a whole set of features and high reliability which makes it great value today. The price also holds up well, and with careful lens choice, can be the centre of actually a good value kit, particularly thinking about resale value.

I bought an M10 about a year ago. The biggest change was the sensor, mainly more detail available in the highlights, although the form factor and more refined shutter was appreciated. It didn't feel like a massive jump though, like the 240 did after the M9. 

For some unexplained reason I skipped the M10-P, and recently I had an opportunity, so decided to buy a M10-R. No massive reason at the time, except maybe the opportunity, although I was curious about the quieter shutter.

What a revelation! This feels like more then one generation over the M240 and almost a different camera from the M10. The silent shutter is fantastic, and feels premium. The 40mp sensor, at pretty much the same noise performance as the M10, is an achievement and very useful for croppers like me. 

The black and white rendition also seems to have moved up a notch.

Not really into the touch screen although its nice to have it occasionally for option selection, and I have a on/off relationship with the evaluative metering, in some ways still prefer centre weighted.

The question is, is it worth double a M240 ? As a watch geek, this question is an impossible one. Is an Omega Diver 300m worth three times a Longines Hydroconquest ? the calibre is a different league, but still the Longines is an awesome watch. I think at the end of the day, I would recommend someone to forego one lens and get the M10-R if they can afford it. The experience is very refined, and is the best partner I have had to date to produce the best photo. However the M240 is still fabulous and does its job. As they say, you pays you money and takes your choice ....

indeed, but I never had the M10-P,  so I am comparing to the M10

The new sensor in the M10-R (and M10 Monochrom), both derived from the S3, included several improvements beyond pixel count.  I use both cameras, and have not yearned for the M11.

FWIW your post could have been written by me it so closely mirrors my own thoughts!!!!!

Happenstance presented me with an opportunity to get a very lightly used M10R (7 weeks and 1 day ago in fact), I still have my M9, flipped the 240 for the (regular) M10 and was very happy with it.

I got the M10R on a serendipitous whim (long story as short as I can make it... I was waiting for a stranger to bring a lens to my mum's house that was for a buddy of mine -the seller didn't want to ship- and I was visiting my mum at the time, which was near where this guy worked. Whilst I was waiting I was browsing M10Rs on both eBay and store used stock, and decided that if I was going to get one then this eBay particular listing looked great, then the doorbell rings and the guy bringing the lens is the guy behind the eBay listing I was looking at as he arrived. He had the camera with him and we made a deal!)

I love the M10, but it's basically t crossing and i dotting from the 240

The 10R is way better than the spec reads on paper

The files are lovely to work with

The BW conversion is great and nicer than the M10 (IMHO)

The day after I made my deal I woke up with a little buyer's remorse... did I rush this? What does it actually do than my M10 doesn't?

7 weeks in and I'm thinking it was one of my most rewarding photography purchasing decisions I've made in a very long time!

Probably one of the most unique M besides M10D, the details on speed dials, iso dials make it distinguishable from the rest M digital

yeah me too, big time.

The irony being that I PERSONALLY think that it's a little bit too shiny irl, but I just abhor the quality of the finish on the black chrome versions (I do at least like the hue of the black chrome though)

I wish black paint was just a standard option, as well as the top plate engraving.
