stephan54 Posted March 18, 2023 Share #31 Posted March 18, 2023 (edited) I read about an interesting neighbourhood in Tokyo on Flyertalk and the visit was worth it. Shibamata: Tochomae Station Taishakutenn Sando at Shibamata has old Edo style housing where it is designated as Bunkazai (文化財, cultural properties) by the Agency of Cultural Affairs. At the end of sando is Shibamata Taishakuten. hibamata Taishakuten is not a large temple like Asakusa or Narita. But Shibamata Taishakuten is not busy with tourists like Asakusa or Narita. Able to enjoy walking around the temple in quiet serenity which is supposed to be for temples. A little walk from Shibamata Taishakuten, away from the station, the back side of the temple, is Edo river. Edo river is the border of Tokyo and Chiba prefecture. Skyliner passes through this part of Edo River, you can see Keisei Skyliner on the bridge in the picture. We usually rent a car (no problem even as non-Japanese speakers). Slower than the train, but more opportunities to stop at real Japan sights and not only the tourist must see stuff. If you want to rent a car you need translation of your German licence, which will probably not possible on such short notice. The German international licence is not valid in Japan as it falls under a different convention. I could use my Dutch licence and drove to the Netherlands to get an international licence as the Dutch one falls under the correct convention (Genf).
