steveash Posted December 13, 2022 Share #1 Posted December 13, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would really love the microprism focussing screen for my S007 but it seems to be out of stock everywhere and it seems doubtful that Leica would want to do another production run. Even used ones don’t seem to come up. Has anyone seen one for sale anywhere? Or even have one they’d be willing to part with? I’m in the UK but happy to look further afield. Advertisement Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Hi steveash, Take a look here Microprism focussing screen. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
fabior Posted December 13, 2022 Share #2 Posted December 13, 2022 I also searched for it but couldn't find it. I then made a request to the leica site to let me know when it will be available for purchase .... but after a month still no news
Jeff S Posted December 13, 2022 Share #3 Posted December 13, 2022 (edited) Can't speak for UK, but Ace Photo in Ashburn, Virginia lists it in stock, and at a small discount. https://acephoto.net/search-results-page?q=leica s microprism screen Jeff Edited December 13, 2022 by Jeff S
Jeff S Posted December 13, 2022 Share #4 Posted December 13, 2022 Here’s one that comes with a bargain priced, used S3! https://www.popflash.com/pre-owned-equipment/leica-s3-medium-format-dslr-camera-body-10827-used-with-microprism-focusing-screen/ Jeff 1

It was about $150 less in Europe at around £300. An expensive focusing screen with a free S3 is very tempting!
MacSpikes Posted January 10, 2023 Share #6 Posted January 10, 2023 I recently bought one (used) from a dealer in Belgium. Best addition to my S (007) ever.
mgrayson3 Posted January 10, 2023 Share #7 Posted January 10, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I might have one in my office. If I do, it was for the S(006). Don’t think that matters, though.

No I think they’re all the same fitting. Time to put it in the S3?

Stuart Richardson Posted January 11, 2023 Share #11 Posted January 11, 2023 It is my S3 that it comes with...if you would like a backup screen, you can just buy my S3. I can't find any downside to this plan...
jpk Posted January 12, 2023 Share #12 Posted January 12, 2023 (edited) When I got the split focusing screen fitted into my 006 it didn't match with the AF: better make sure the alignment is spot on before using it for critical work... Thanks, I’ll do some tests. I’m keen to try my Hasselblad 100mm f2.2 which was a challenge to focus even before the AF gearbox failed.

I had a very similar problem with my S3. I have a split focusing screen from my previous camera and tried to install it myself to no avail. I obviously misaligned something regardless of my efforts to follow the screen installation guide. I had to return to my regular screen and it’s works well in manual and AF. Stuart Richardson Posted January 15, 2023 Share #15 Posted January 15, 2023 Mine never worked perfectly either, to be honest. It was helpful for manual only lenses, but the split prism was not as accurate as the AF focus indicator.
jpk Posted January 18, 2023 Share #16 Posted January 18, 2023 If that happens just let Leica adjust your focusing screen to match the AF or vice versa - it helped in my case, the split screen is perfect since.
steveash Posted February 1, 2023 Author Share #17 Posted February 1, 2023 After some rather non-scientific experimentation with the focussing screen (thanks again Matt!) and lenses of various focal length, comparing manual and auto focus it seems to be perfectly calibrated with my camera. I do find it quite difficult to use with a 28mm Hasselblad lens, as the wide angle makes any edges to be aligned very small. Maybe I just need to see my optician!
mgrayson3 Posted February 2, 2023 Share #18 Posted February 2, 2023 (edited) Steve, Good to hear it's a fit. The advantage of a Wide Angle lens is f/8 and don't worry. 😆 Matt Edited February 2, 2023 by mgrayson3
