I'm usually resistant to suggesting that pictures are cropped but I experimented with a crop on this to remove the right-hand figures (ie so that the r/h side of the frame just clips the r/h side of the van; the l/h side is full-frame) and I was extremely surprised at just how much difference it made when the figures, shop signs and shutters to the right are cropped out. It restores an emphasis on the figure and his expression and what I find a very pleasing high-key 'splash' around him -- white hair, pale skin, white van, white sky, bleached out building -- which are all beautifully registered in the tonal range.
